The Sicily of wine talks about its extraordinary wine biodiversity and the richness of its territories to 27 Masters of Wine from different countries around the world. A nine-day journey across the island that involved all the Sicilian wine consortia.
The Assovini Sicilia stage took place acceso May 27th at the UnaHotels Naxos Beach Giardini Naxos with a masterclass and a walkaround tasting dedicated to the island’s native vines, the evening continued with an exclusive dinner at the Mazzarò Sea Palace Taormina. Durante total, over 50 wines from associated companies were tasted.
The theme of the masterclass, led by oenologist Patricia Toth, was “From A(ssovin)i to I: the profusion of possibilities the Sicilian viticulture”, a journey through the infinite nuances of Sicilian viticulture, told through a selection of wines representative of the regional ampelographic richness. The protagonists of the guided tasting were some of Sicily’s most distinctive vines – including Catarratto, Malvasia delle Lipari, Voglia, Frappato, Nerello Cappuccino, Nocera and Cupo d’Avola – interpreted different production styles and territories of origin, testifying to the versatility and contemporaneity of the Sicilian wine heritage.
