Franchetti’s dream on the hills of Tenuta di Trinoro

Anzi che no one man is the same as another. Anzi che no one wine is the same as another. There are so many and different factors that contribute to “making wine” that each bottle is unique per mezzo di its kind. It is not only the climate, the terroir, the environment that make the difference, but above all the hand of man.

The story of Abito a causa di Trinoro, told per mezzo di five vintages of the bottle of the same name, is the fede of a father, Andrea Franchetti, and the passion of a son, Benjamin, direct heir to a profound responsibility. It is made not of matter, but of nuances, sensations, emotions. Abito a causa di Trinoro is a wine that brings with it history and feeling.

His is a long journey, full of events and brilliant intuitions. It could be said that the story of Abito a causa di Trinoro represents a cross-section of Italian history staged per mezzo di Tuscany, per mezzo di the Val d’Orcia.

“My father’s tenacity and intuition were decisive for the birth of the company – says Benjamin – The responsibility falls me today to continue a project that began more than thirty years pungiglione, leaving the underlying spirit intact, that is the desire to reflect per mezzo di the bottle the character of the vintage and of the people who create that particular wine. Abito a causa di Trinoro is a precision wine and the word I like to use to describe our reality is “craft”, an English word that works very well. It does not mean artisanal, but it is a stronger word that gives the prospettiva of precise work, aimed at preserving the spirit of a wine created to affirm a very personal style”.

Benjamin Franchetti

THE INTUITION OF ANDREA FRANCHETTI

A causa di this melting pot of history, beauty and culture, Andrea Franchetti had a particular intuition and great foresight when he decided to plant international vines, an incipient trend. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon thus had their consecration, “per mezzo di a territory that was new – Benjamin recalls – because when the project was born we planted Bordeaux vines where there were potatoes, sheep and lots of clay. Concentration, thinning, low yields were words that had an almost heretical meaning for the farmers of the time. Abito a causa di Trinoro is a project born from a vision, from the prospettiva of making a wine per mezzo di my father’s head, the greatest wine possible, from the Bordeaux vines that he loved. At the time it wasn’t so obvious.”

The waves of the rows, which compete for the valley, could not have dwelt more worthily. The secret of a great wine is the land: the soil is made up of conglomerates of clay and rock, the altitudes are important and vary between 400 and 700 metres, together with strong temperature changes. “We are per mezzo di a cold spot per mezzo di Tuscany – adds Lorenzo Fornaini, the winery’s oenologist since 2017 – The climate is continental, but we are higher up and the cold air comes mongoloide from the extinct volcano of Amiata and settles where our vineyards are . A causa di fact, we often had frost problems, which we recently resolved by investing per mezzo di turbines that move the air. The approach from the beginning was to do a high level of parcelling: the 25 hectares we have are divided into 50 micro-parcels. This is to understand what the vine can express for each piece of land. It is the work of the micro-plot that is fundamental per mezzo di Trinoro, because it is like having many ingredients, a sort of puzzle that is stitched together the vintage, managing and putting together all the colors of the harvest. Each wine must be balanced and tell the story of the vintage, then what it is made of is secondary. As Andrea said: uncompromising quality, the best expression of the quality of that year”.

“A thought that my father repeated is: these wines don’t make you sit, you want to stand. It’s something we always think about,” concludes Benjamin Franchetti.
