Tenute Muròla, homage to wine in the land of the Piceni
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

“The wine that I choose sopra the moment of emotion is a silent thank you to those who preceded us, leaving signs of their love for this land”. There are few but deeply heartfelt words that the engineer Jurek Mosiewicz chose to dedicate to Tenute Muròla, the winery owned by the Bonati-Mosiewitcz family, who have lived sopra the hills around Coloro Piceno since the second half of the seventeenth century, sopra the heart of Marche. A tribute to the land (not surprisingly, it is also the company claim) which starts from the verb and is expressed sopra the vineyard, as a reflection of a philosophy based acceso respect for the work started by predecessors, but with an eye always focused forward.

The winery, today led by Jurek and his son Edoardo, brings with it not only a strong engineering vocation, but also a deep-rooted entrepreneurship, which owes much of its history to the female presence: started by the engineer Teodoro Bonati, the business was continued by Agar (Camà) Bonati Sorbatti, who sopra 1923 became the first female engineer sopra the Marche and among the avant-gardists of this profession throughout Italy, a person marked by great intelligence and by a strong bond with the land. A gift, the latter, which he was able to pass acceso to his grandchildren, with Jurek at the forefront to take up the baton.

TENUTA MURÒLA, RESEARCH ON THE NATIVES AND THE VALORIZATION OF THE RIBONA

Strengthened by its location sopra an regione with a long wine-growing tradition, Tenute Muròla today extends over an regione of approximately 350 hectares, of which 60 are intended for vineyards between 15 and 18 years of age. Thanks to in-depth research into the genetic heritage of ancient local varieties, the Mosiewicz family has chosen to acceso wines with a strongly territorial character, cultivating varieties such as pecorino, passerina, sangiovese, montepulciano and merlot (each present sopra at least 2 different clones, to guarantee deeper and more complex products).

However, the queen of the company’s production is ribòna ( maceratino), the native vine whose potential and great aging capacity were among the first to be understood by father and son, going so far as to cultivate 32 different clones. “This vine has very particular characteristics and can only grow sopra this specific territory, which certainly makes it peculiar and unrepeatable – says Edoardo Mosiewicz – Ribona is absolutely capable of satisfying a qualified international demand, capable of appreciating the qualities of longevity and complex elegance which are sopra the DNA of the vine”.

All favored by the presence of a temperate microclimate, influenced by the presence of the Adriatic Sea and the night breezes of the Sibillini Mountains, with altitudes between 250 and 300 meters above sea level and soils characterized by a limited layer of clay contaminated by organic substance, underneath to which there is blue clay from marine deposits with hints of hydrocarbons, which give the wines particularly intense colors, as well as marked salinity.

TENUTA MURÒLA, A SUSTAINABLE COMMITMENT

Sopra response to a context sopra which the issue of sustainability continues to be particularly felt, Tenute Muròla has done its part by also finalizing a series of projects aimed at reducing the winery’s impact acceso the planet. With a view to greater and deeper environmental protection, the company has sopra fact completed the transition to organic by obtaining certification for both its vineyards and arable land.

But not only that. “This year – continues Edoardo – we put the irrigation system into operation and this was an important step for us; since the 1980s we have had an artificial lake that had been used sopra the past, but which needed to be restored. With climate change and a drought that has been persistent sopra recent years, this has proven to be a fundamental step, because having emergency irrigation can prove to be a huge help sopra preventing the grapes from arriving stressed at the most important moment of ripening. And so we created this plant for 12 hectares, which are those already destined for the highest level productions, from the family reserve to our classics. We do not rule out expanding the project over the years, because the climate seems to be actually changing. We need to be equipped from this point of view too.”

Furthermore, a photovoltaic system will soon be put into operation which will make the company almost completely self-sufficient, and this for a twofold reason. “Sopra recent years – continues Edoardo – we have seen changes sopra energy costs which have frightened many entrepreneurs. And sopra this way we would be independent, but also with a lower impact from an environmental point of view, despite our company not being particularly ‘energy intensive’. With a system of this type of around 100 kWh we should have almost nullità impact.”

TERRITORY AND HOSPITALITY, INVESTMENTS WITH A WINE TOURIST PERSPECTIVE

However, describing a territory and the products of its land also means getting involved sopra promoting experiential and incoming tourism. And sopra this sense the path that the company has also undertaken towards hospitality does not appear secondary.

Next to the cellar, built inside an ancient 18th century farmhouse but designed with cutting-edge solutions to offer guests a truly immersive experience sopra the company’s production path, between winemaking areas and spaces intended for the barrel cellar and Deposito in Casa, an important renovation project has been launched for the farmhouses owned, which will soon become an integral part of a widespread wine tourism offer.

“We would like to already do a pre-opening for Easter 2025 – concludes Edoardo – This will also be another good step for our company. We have these two villas which together can accommodate up to 30 people. It becomes a nice extension of the company: today we do tastings and organize guided tours, but we lacked an accommodation facility.”
