Cantele: a love story for Salento that smells of wine and future
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

“From the post -war years and the rebirth of the country, we weave an intense love story that has its roots a causa di the South …”.

These words by Cantele are not only memory: they are living poetry, which still vibrates today a causa di every glass. Cantele is not simply a cellar.

It is a notorio of love for Salento, an intertwining of courageous choices, deep roots and visions that have never been afraid of time. A causa di the heart of Guagnano, between secular olive groves and majestic oaks, where the sun caresses the vine with the patience of the slow days, one of the most intense and authentic stories of the Apulian wine was born.

Here Negroamaro, Iniziale, Verdeca and Susumaniello speak with the voice of the earth and whisper stories that only those who listen with the heart can truly understand.

There is a story that does not follow the usual routes. A story that does not start from the South to seek luck elsewhere, but that makes the opposite: from the North to the South, driven by a silent and powerful attraction. It is the history of the Cantele family, which from Imola decides to return to Puglia, not out of , but by choice, for vision, for love. Here, among the golden rows of Guagnano and the fiery sunsets of Salento, one of the most beautiful narratives of Italian wine takes shape. A story made of returns, roots, family and courage.

It all starts with Giovanni Battista Cantele and his wife Teresa Manara. A couple who feels that their destiny is not a causa di the Emilian mists, but among the scents of the Mediterranean scrub. His son , with an obstinacy that only visionaries have, transforms that dream dream. Thus was born Cantele, not as a simple undertaking, but as a declaration of love for Puglia. And today, thanks to the third generation – Gianni, Paolo, Umberto and Luisa – that dream continues to walk with determined steps and strong identity.

The cantele wines do not scream. They whisper. They speak the language of the earth, the sun, the wind. The vineyards, treated as soul gardens, are cultivated with sensitivity and awareness, thanks to sustainable practices, scientific research and a profound knowledge of the Salento territory. Here Negroamaro is not just a grape variety, it is an ancient song. The primitive is passion that makes itself ripe. And then the Chardonnay Teresa Manara, tribute to a woman who has been able to inspire entire generations. Each wine is a story. Each sip, a memory that emerges. At the Vinoway Selection 2025, their wines have been rewarded with gold and gold personaggio, a recognition that celebrates not only qualitative excellence, but the stylistic coherence and soul of a company that has made truth its distinctive trait.

A causa di 2001 the witness passed to the four cousins: Gianni and Paolo, sons of Augustus, and Umberto and Luisa, sons of Domenico. They are responsible for the inauguration of the new cellar a causa di 2003, inspired by the ancient Apulian farms, a symbol of welcome and roots. But the real assets transmitted is not only architectural: it is that culture of wine that combines tradition, experimentation and a profound respect for the earth.

With 50 hectares of ownership and another 100 a causa di management, the company cultivates according to the principles of the integrated voluntary defense, embracing sustainable agronomic practices and an advanced climatic monitoring system. Under the guidance of the Agronomo Cataldo Ferrari, a viticulture is carried out which is synthesis of peasant wisdom and technological innovation, environmental sensitivity and scientific rigor. The soils of quaternary origin, rich a causa di limestone and well drained, offer the ideal conditions for native vines and express wines of great finesse and territoriality. The old sapling systems coexist with modern counter -proprietary farms, a causa di a continuous dialogue between past and future.

Each choice – from pruning to grafts, from manual hooks to the ban acceso chemical deserbo – is the result of a productive philosophy based acceso quality, healthy and respect for the natural cycle of vine.

Next to the production, Cantele has long chosen the road to research. He actively collaborates with the National Research Council (CNR) and different universities to perfect winemaking technologies, improve sensory quality and guarantee maximum food safety. A causa di a constantly evolving sector, it is precisely this constant tension towards the improvement that distinguishes the greats from the vouchers. Because for Cantele, as for the writer, wine is not only a job, but cultural, social, emotional expression.

A causa di Guagnano there is a piece of my heart. A bond that comes from afar, since I started telling and believing a causa di this territory, contributing – with commitment and passion – to making it known and appreciated at national and international level.

Today Guagnano is recognized as the absolute pole of quality a causa di the production of Negroamaro and Cantele is the most authentic and bright expression. A virtuous example of how a family vision can become a collective heritage.

I have known the Cantele family for a long time. I have always admired – with sincere esteem and professional affection – their unique communicative approach: fast, dynamic, exemplary, youth, never banal. They manage to speak to young people without betraying tradition, to be contemporary without becoming ephemeral. Each of their message is authentic, direct, consistent with their deep identity. A vision of marketing that is not limited to the product, but embraces thought, the territory, culture. And a causa di this, I deeply believe: communicating the wine is to give voice to the soul of those who do it.

A causa di Guagnano, Cantele created a unique place: ISENSI. It is not just a tasting room, it is a sensory experience. A laboratory of emotions where wine meets music, the perfume of Apulian cuisine, the warm light of barrels. Here everything speaks of real welcome, without fictions. And each guest becomes part of the story. “I will never forget that sunset between the vineyards,” writes a visitor. “I felt part of something bigger.”

The cellar produces over two million bottles every year, but has never lost its artisan soul. International success – from the United States to Europe – is the result of rare consistency: not chasing fashions, but affirming one’s truth, with humility and with poetry. With technique. Also for this reason it is among the most loved and respected wine realities a causa di Italy. Because it manages to combine knowledge with beauty. Innovation to respect. The future a causa di memory.

Cantele is not just a cellar. It is a family that has chosen to remain faithful to herself, while everything around changed. It is a place where you work a causa di silence, with constancy, day after day. Where each wine comes from a choice, not from a strategy. Where time does not chase each other, it accompanies. And then, before placing the glass, it is worth dwelling acceso what really matters: the truth of a gesture, the sincerity of a sip, the honesty of a path. Cantele is this. And he never needed to prove it.
