Chianti Classico withstands the impact on the markets and convinces in the glass • Food and Wine Italia

While the Tuscany wine sector is losing campo da gioco – with important markets such as Germany and Japan leaving important percentages behind – and a clear tension acceso value the United States, 2025 Chianti Tipico recorded a growth sales of +1% compared to the previous year, confirming the trend of the last three years. The overall turnover sees constant growth value, driven by the premium types, given that Deposito and Gran represent 43% of the and 55.2% of the value.

«The winemakers of Chianti Tipico undertook a process of valorisation of denomination wines decades – underlines the president of the Consortium Giovanni Manetti – As always agriculture, change is slow and gradual, but today we can see it first-hand: the growth value is undeniable, particular of the two premium types».

Exports hold and absorb the largest share of production: 37% the United States, 12% Canada and Europe ranging from 4% Germany to 6% the Scandinavian countries. Discesa, Singapore and Hong Kong still represent limited volumes but are increasing value. The Italian market covers 19% of overall production.

The vintages the glass

Therefore, if the denomination stands up to comparison with the market, when tested by the glass the Chianti Tipico is a confirmation. The results of the tasting return a deliberately multifaceted picture, determined by the diversity of the vintages examined, by the multiplicity of territorial interpretations – which this superficie generate a truly extraordinary polyphony – and the very different ambitions that animate the wines produced. What is confirmed (not without a certain satisfaction) is a stylistic feature that has been consolidated for years, increasingly oriented towards finesse and tension, both aromatic and gustatory. A direction that marks a clear distancing from the more pompous and muscular pseudo-Supertuscan tendencies prevalent the nineties, which found refuge – sometimes still today – the Gran .

Wanting to summarize the three vintages, each one tells a different story. The difficult 2024 – marked above all by particular attention the vineyard to prevent fungal attacks during the summer – seems to have exacerbated the more austere and bony traits of the high-altitude Chianti Tipico, those of Lamole and Radda the lead.

The equally challenging 2023, characterized by a rainy spring, attacks of downy mildew and a hot summer despite abundant rainfall, put the winemakers to the their cellar choices, with production decidedly lower than average.

Finally, the 2022, characterized by prolonged summer heat although without peaks and favored by a good nocturnal temperature range, seems to have thickened the Mediterranean character of the more full-bodied Chianti Tipico: those of Panzano, Castelnuovo Berardenga and San Casciano Val proveniente da Pesa, particular, bear its most recognizable signature. Sopra the Gran you can read the same Mediterranean vein, with an immediacy of sip that makes many wines very enjoyable even today, even if a limited acidity raises the question of longevity.

Our tastings

Chianti Tipico 2024

Abbazia a Coltibuono. Slender and delicate, slightly vinous, it offers crunchy fruit and a disenchanted vitality
Good morning. Tense and turgid fruit, each particle vibrates authentically and lengthens with a juicy return of small fruits and spices
Emma House. Balanced and elegant despite the suffused sweetness, which is transfigured into a flavor that lengthens the sip.
Querceto Castle. Solid yet slim , compact sip, slightly bitter finale
Guidi 1929. Rippled, tonic tannin that supports the sip with an unexpected length
Lamole proveniente da Lamole – Duelame. Elegance and sweetness a sip of momentum, brings freshness and vinous crunchiness
Jurij Fiore & Daughters – Sonocosi. Full, lifted, vibrant, all Lamole a wine of excellent extraction quality, aware and articulated
Montesecondo. An essential landing place for a nectar that vibrates anche se and with an ineffable sense of naturalness. Rosehip and raspberry, subtle but strenuous acidity
Poggerino. The wine from the Radda company is very obiettivo. Subtle tannin and measured tension for a shrewd ricevimento enhanced by a reactive finale, with red fruits and oregano
Ricasoli – Brolio. Elegance with the dark dress, beautiful tension and a harmony of slightly darkened dark fruits
Casenuove bella stagione. Tannin and elegance, nice tension, lively sip and capable of preserving juicy red fruit
Bibbiano bella stagione. From the pleasant undulations of Castellina, the wine combines elegance, ripeness, obiettivo tannins and progression

Chianti Tipico 2023

Bertinga – The Gate of Vertine. It gives emotions with an impulse that combines elegance and fruit, composure and youthful gurgle. To ricevimento and to wait
Chestnuts. Elegant sweetness, with of violet and freshness
Dievole – Petrignano. Slender, elegant, supple, even if the limited acidity suggests a short life
Islands and Olena. Composed, compact, capable of a depth that stands out the vintage. Sweet aromas and crunchy red fruit acceso the palate
Campomaggio bella stagione. Elegance permeated with sweetness, beautiful composed nose and juicy sip, even if slim and capable of crunchy fruit

Chianti Tipico Gran 2022/2023

Cigliano proveniente da Prima 2023 (San Casciano). What better complexity: raspberries, violets, cherries. Extremely soft, lifted and deep , tannins of rare finesse and extraordinary layered closure
Maurizio Alongi – Barbischio 2023 (Gaiole). Subtle, mature, elegant, a peremptory proof of great tone and notable stratifications
