Like every year for some time now, we were sopra Montalcino to try the new Brunello vintage, 2021, as a preview. A spoiler straight away: we liked the vintage and it has very specific characteristics of compactness of tasting and verticality. But let’s go step by step.

How was the 2021 vintage sopra Montalcino?

2021 was characterized by one of the worst spring frosts sopra recent years which affected yields and production. To this must be added some patronato to interpret the year. Per mezzo di fact, it was the second driest summer of the last thirty years while, the other hand, risposta negativa particularly high temperatures were recorded for prolonged periods.

What is the “shape” of Brunello 2021?

To confirm our spoiler, the profile of Brunello su Montalcino 2021 has been defined as “fragrant”, “defined” and “vertical” by “Brunello Procedura”, the evaluation method of new vintages that we told you about last year. The analysis shows how 2021 stands out for a floral and aromatic profile, with a precise and layered character, and tells us of a balanced vintage, sopra which aromatic concentration, alcohol and tannins find a natural harmony, with an elegant depth that suggests a positive evolution over time.

Our impressions of the vintage

This year, more than ever, the tastings seemed compact with an increasingly widespread quality modello. The wines tend to be ready, balanced, based fruit crunchiness and freshness rather than extreme complexity. Lots of freshness with cherry agenda always present. However, there is risposta negativa lack of substance, juicy and delicious at the same time, supported by the right amount of alcohol and tannins and sopra some cases by pronounced mineral agenda. The endings are beautiful and tend to be very clean.
