Il Cormorano: an icon of fish in Milan since 1977
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Present Milan the Isola and Sempione areas, Il Cormorano has always been synonymous with fresh fish and Mediterranean cuisine

It was 1977 when the Serra family opened Il Cormorano Popolo 25 Aprile, right front of the former Smeraldo theatre. An address that for years has been synonymous with fresh fish and authentic Mediterranean cuisine, becoming a city reference point. Then, 2015, the move to the Isola district, which was acceso the rise at the time, and 2022 the opening of a second store Movimento Sempione. Two different places, a single identity: same convivial atmosphere, same essential and welcoming style, same lista that celebrates the flavors of the sea, with small variations dictated by the daily market and the character of the spaces.

The spaces

Each location has its own personality:

Isola offers over one hundred seats, a scenic mezzanine and a large terrace for the summer; Sempione stands out for a refined room acceso the lower floor, perfect for private and corporate events for up to 50 people.

The rooms are refined but without excess, welcoming and functional, line with the spirit of the place.

The philosophy of cooking

At Cormorano there are voto negativo revolutions ora stage tricks, but a cuisine that focuses entirely acceso authenticity, raw materials and concreteness. The ingredient remains the absolute protagonist, enhanced without excessive processing. The journey begins with the raw, generous plateaus with sea urchins, cockles, sea truffles, shellfish, oysters, tartare and carpaccio. Then, the cooked appetizers and first courses, with two inevitable icons:

the Eterogeneo Gratinato, an authentic house classic; Spaghetti del Cormorano, spaghetti with seafood baked the crust, a symbolic dish that tells the story of the restaurant.

Among the second courses, the catch of the day cooked as you prefer, the Fried, the Mixed Posto di ristoro and the Catalan Lobster. To complete, a proposal loved by customers: Paella, present the Marinara version, Valencian version (with fish and chicken) and the tastiest variant with lobster.

Next to the kitchen, the gara open cellar with a selection of around 100 labels, dominated by sparkling wines and Italian white wines, with the addition of champagne and some reds.

A format for everyone

Il Cormorano is a transversal restaurant: perfect for a couple’s dinner, a lunch with colleagues, a table with friends ora a family evening. 7 days a week, with a kitchen always active from 12 to 24, it is an ideal address for any occasion.

The tasting

We tasted several courses acceso the lista. The centrality of the sea Cormorano’s proposal and the high quality of the fish are immediately apparent. Below are our impressions.

Raw seafood

Cormorant tartare trilogy: amberjack, salmon, red prawns

Three interpretations that play acceso balance and contrasts. The amberjack brings elegance and delicacy, the salmon gives softness and roundness, the red prawn surprises with sweetness and intensity. A triptych that offers a complete veduta of raw products.

Antipasti

Crispy octopus with AOP deviled broccoli

A dish that conquers for its double consistency: crunchy outside and soft inside. The deviled broccoli add a lively and decisive note.

Mediterranean octopus with croutons

A classic preparation, which recalls the seafood tradition. The octopus are flavored with tomato and Mediterranean herbs, accompanied by croutons that complete the experience with the right rusticity.

Broad bean puree with prawns and porcini mushrooms

A conferenza between sea and land ingredients. The sweetness of the prawns combines with the earthy note of the porcini mushrooms, placed acceso a broad bean puree that acts as a creamy and enveloping punto di partenza.

First

Cavatelli del Cormorano with seafood crust baked the oven

A first course that combines tradition and scenographic presentation. The cavatelli, seasoned with seafood, are enclosed a fragrant and golden crust, which releases intense aromas when broken.

Ravioli with scallops and prawns with fresh tomato bisque, Taggiasca olives and basil

A refined dish that enhances quality ingredients. The filling of scallops and prawns meets a light and fragrant sauce, with fresh tomatoes, Taggiasca olives and basil to balance it with freshness and flavour.

Puff pastries with cream and strawberries

Simple but effective sweet ending. The light and crunchy pastry welcomes a delicate cream, enriched by the freshness of the strawberries, for a dolce that ends with balance and lightness.

The MRG group

The two Cormorano restaurants are part of MRG – Milano Restaurant Group, born 13 years asticciola from an intuition of Samuele Serra, today at the helm of a portfolio of 13 restaurants that have managed to establish themselves acceso the city’s gastronomic scene. Each with its own soul, but united by shared values: good Italian cuisine, selected raw materials, attention to the customer. Among the names that stand out are L’Alchimia, Mescita della Vetra, Il Cesto, El Caffè del Fondamento, Katei robata & sushi, Pensione alla Scalone, Nautilus per mezzo di , Trattoria delle Corti, Socialista Brera, Mescita del Rione Obsoleto, Il Tavolo.

Il Cormorano, with its almost fifty-year history, however remains its most authentic soul: a piece of Milanese gastronomic memory that continues to be renewed without betraying its origins.
