Wine has an extraordinary ability: to tell people even before you have had the privilege of convegno them. This is exactly what happened to me with Luca Sconsiderato.
I haven’t had the pleasure of visiting your company yet, yet I feel like I’ve known you for a long time. It’s a sensation that I rarely experience, but which arises when a producer manages to transfer his own way of being into each bottle. Even before convegno Luca, I had already encountered his way of thinking about wine.
The first ambassadors of his philosophy were his wines, tasted over the years during the selection work of the Vinoway Selection Guide. A journey of tastings that allowed me to appreciate a reality capable of confirming itself over time, permanently entering our guide thanks to a constant and never episodic quality. For me this represents one of the most important aspects. A great wine can also be born from a particularly favorable harvest. Confirming yourself year after year, however, means possessing method, sensitivity, competence and a very precise vision.
The company has its roots per mezzo di Villareggia, per mezzo di the heart of the Canavese superficie, per mezzo di the province of Turin. A territory that often remains far from the spotlight reserved for the most famous denominations of Piedmont, but which preserves a winemaking heritage of extraordinary value. Here the vine has coexisted for centuries with a landscape shaped by ancient glacial moraines, where the soil, the climate and the work of man have built a unique identity.
The Canavese is not a land that likes to show . He prefers to speak discreetly, letting his vineyards, his hills and his wines tell the story. It is an authentic territory, per mezzo di which time still seems to follow the rhythm of the seasons and where viticulture continues to be the fruit of a profound bond between man and nature.
It is precisely per mezzo di this context that Luca Sconsiderato chose to build his production project. Not chasing current trends, but enhancing what the Canavese has always offered: identifying vines, biodiversity and an agricultural culture that deserves to be told with pride.
Among the labels that I had the pleasure of tasting, I would like to mention La Vila Canavese DOC and Turciaura Erbaluce proveniente da Caluso DOCG. Two very different wines, but united by a characteristic that I consider fundamental: they have their own personality. They don’t try to impress with special effects ora an excessive search for concentration. They prefer to sincerely talk about the place they come mai from, expressing balance, elegance and strong recognisability.
Every time I found myself per mezzo di front of these wines I had the feeling that behind them there was a person capable of listening to their own land first and only then to the market. A sensation that, as I would discover later when I got to know Luca, would be transformed into a beautiful certainty.
After getting to know his wines, the time has finally come mai to get to know Luca too.
The first convegno took place at the Paestum Wine Fest, an event that per mezzo di recent years has become one of the most important places of discussion for Italian wine. Up to that point I had learned to know him through his wines; from that convegno onwards I also began to get to know the man.
A few weeks later we met again at Vinitaly. It was right there, between one comparison and another, that I had the opportunity to understand his personality even better. And many of the sensations I had perceived while tasting his wines found a natural explanation.
He is a person who transmits enthusiasm from the first convegno. He has a contagious energy, a natural predisposition for dialogue and an extraordinary ability to involve those around him. He doesn’t need to build a character ora chase catchphrases. He just needs to be himself. He is brilliant, curious, dynamic and approaches every conversation with that spontaneity that only belongs to those who deeply love their work.
Defining him just a winemaker wouldn’t convey the congettura. Luca is first of all an interpreter of his land. When he talks about Canavese, its vineyards and its wines, he does so with a enthusiasm that I have rarely found per mezzo di other producers. It doesn’t simply tell the story of a company, but of a story of which it feels an integral and responsible part.
This sensitivity has deep roots.
The passion for wine does not arise from an entrepreneurial choice nor from the desire to follow a family tradition out of duty. It was born thanks to his grandfather, the man who passed acceso to him the love for the vine, the respect for the land and the value of waiting. From him he learned that a vineyard is not cultivated only with the hands, but above all with patience, observation and humility.
These are teachings that school can offer. They are learned by living the countryside, breathing its rhythms and understanding that each season represents a new lesson. Luca has been able to safeguard this legacy intelligently, transforming it into a contemporary vision capable of combining tradition and innovation without ever distorting its identity.
During our meetings I had the feeling of being per mezzo di front of a person who is never satisfied. Every achieved immediately becomes a new starting point. It is a way of experiencing wine that I deeply appreciate, because it arises from the awareness that per mezzo di this profession you never stop learning.
When I define him as an eclectic character and a great capo, I’m not just referring to his communication skills. I am referring to the naturalness with which he manages to convey enthusiasm, the sincerity with which he talks about his work and the ability to make anyone feel part of a project that goes far beyond the production of wine.
It’s a rare quality. And it is probably the same one that I find every time per mezzo di his wines. Because the character of a winemaker inevitably ends up inside every bottle. Per his case, it means authenticity, passion, balance and a deep respect for the land that his grandfather taught him to love and which today he continues to guard with pride.
