Acceso Monday 7 October, during Milan Wine Week, MWW Group awarded the MWW Awards, awards that celebrate the best wine selections Italian and international catering and retail: we could define them as the Milanese wine Oscars. The Manzoni Theater hosted the awards ceremony; the prestigious awards were assigned by a jury of experts who used quality, innovation and new trends acceso the Italian and international scene as criteria. The jury, chaired by the director of the Reciso Ristoranti Guide, critic and gastronome Andrea Grignaffini, was made up of Raffaele Cumani, Andrea Cuomo, Ciro Fontanesi, Elio Ghisalberti, Fabiano Guatteri, Andrea Guolo, Lara Loreti, Alberto Schieppati, Luca Turner and Orazio Vagnozzi. Federico Gordini, President of Milan Wine Week, underlines the importance of the jurors’ work: “Passion, care for the products and attention to territorial variety combined with awareness of emerging trends are the pillars acceso which the selection of the jury of experts who do an extraordinary job every year to select the winners. With the MWW Awards we intend to recognize the commitment of those who stand out for the quality of their selection, not only Italy but also abroad. It is essential to respond to the ever-evolving needs of consumers and these awards represent an important opportunity to celebrate excellence and innovation the wine landscape. Furthermore, it is a moment of convegno and discussion to enhance the activity of spreading wine culture and the promotion of our wine heritage, which passes through the tables of the places of administration and the shelves of the points of buonsenso Italy”.
Instead, it was Andrea Grignaffini who made a comment acceso the evolution of wine lists: “I think that never more than this moment which catering seems to be done only by chefs, is there a need for recognition for those who compile wine lists who, compared the past, they are truly a difficult exercise coppia to the incredible increase labels present acceso the market. If once the wine list was made up of two three nations, now it concerns the whole world and therefore implies a truly excellent capacity for mnemonic and critical analysis acceso the part of the sommelier who deals with it”.
The winners of the MWW Awards
The evening, a true eleganza event, turned the spotlight acceso the best selectors Italy awarded the supply sectors with the “Wine Card” award and the qualified retail sector with the Wine Retail award. The Best Italian Wine Selection are awards dedicated to abroad, represented by a delegation of 30 head sommeliers from all over the world and selected by ICE-Agency.
Among the novelties of this year’s MWW Awards there is a series of special awards among which the Lifetime Achievement Award awarded to Riccardo Cotarella stands out. Cotarella is considered the number one Italian winemaker (he manages over 100 wineries worldwide) and is co-founder of Parentado Cotarella, one of Italy’s leading wineries. Cotarella commented: “I am honored to receive this award because I believe I have truly given my life to wine and viticulture. Passion, love, dedication have accompanied me and still accompany me every day my profession. Feelings that must necessarily go hand hand with science, research, applied technique, all with the final objective of increasingly raising the quality of Italian wines. We will never arrive at the perfect wine, but the oenologists’ task is to improve it year after year and narrate it as it deserves. We are lucky enough to dal vivo an extraordinary country called Italy with its infinite peculiarities, with a biodiversity unique the world that allows our wines to be simply exclusive and ambassadors of a thousand-year history such as ours and our wonderful territories. The award I received today is a further incentive to luce the profession with even greater determination and passion”.
