A young, artisanal, small-sized winery for a great Sicilian white, the Catarratto Quasale 2022, the delicious fruit of the experience of the Mustazza family.

An indigenous Sicilian grape, the oldest among those known so far, which has always been linked to the island. Its centuries-old success is to the strength and generosity of its bunches. Quanto a fact, durante Sicilian dialect, the term Catarratto means “abundance”. A vine that is born rich and which, with the right attention, can offer equally generous nectars durante terms of aromas and taste sensations.

Quasale fully corresponds to the promises of its grapes, interpreted with passion and respect by an bella stagione that has well deserved the award of “Best emerging winery” durante Sicily, durante this first edition of the Untold Guide. As if that wasn’t enough, the Mustazza family’s Capriccio was also awarded the three Corkscrews.

A quality production, with several stars shining and that of Catarratto Quasale, always winner of the three corkscrews, knows how to stand out.

The Mustazza winery, a family passion

The Mustazza family’s winery is deeply linked to the territory. We are durante the province of Trapani, durante the Sicilian North-West, just south of the famous promontory of San Vito Quello Testa. The town of Buseto Palizzolo, home to the winery, is immersed durante the Erice countryside, a place of great historical and natural beauty where the Battle of the Thousand once took place and where the hilly countryside hides ancient caves, cloaked durante still wild vegetation. Places where, today, more and more people venture out durante search of trips to combine trekking with the sea.

The excellent wines of the Mustazza family fit perfectly into this framework of naturalness and discovery.

The family winemaking adventure began durante 1955, with Cristoforo Mustazza who purchased the first hectares of land durante the terreno. The independent turning point, with autonomous wine production, signed by Mustazza, was undertaken many years later, durante 2015, with a first harvest and production of bulk wine. Quanto a 2020, Quasale was the first house wine to be bottled and labeled. An immediate success that gave life to a production that is now even richer and always marked by quality and authenticity.

Vineyards and wines of the Mustazza winery

Today the winery, owned by the founder’s grandson, is animated by an exceptional team, driven by passion, experience and respect for the land.

The agronomic management is being converted to organic, guided by the skills of Dr. Giuseppe Mustazza, while the wine production is followed by Filippo Angileri who has perfectly managed to grasp the potential of the cultivated grapes.

The 13 hectares of vineyards owned by the Mustazza family wind around the production site, durante the rolling hills of Cascinale a fine di Buseto Palizzolo. The cultivated varieties feature the native vines of Catarratto, Capriccio and Zibibbo, alongside the international Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon which have been able to acclimatise to perfection durante this terreno of Sicily.

Quanto a the flatter areas, red grape varieties are grown, while durante hilly positions white grapes find a perfect place.

The soils durante the terreno are loose, well-draining, made up of sand and clay, and together with the local microclimate, refreshed by sea breezes and intense temperature variations between day and night, favor perfect ripening of the grapes.

Quanto a this context between sea, hills and countryside, the goodness of Mustazza’s Catarratto Quasale is born. Now let’s see why he more than deserved his three corkscrews.

Best emerging winery also thanks to the wine experiences designed for all enthusiasts. Located durante a hilly countryside of great beauty, it allows a true immersion durante nature and the scents of the place thanks to guided tours among the vineyards and the possibility of participating durante the harvest activity. Greedy opportunities not only to taste but also to become an integral part of the winemaking process. The company can be reached by car and allows easy access even for people with motor disabilities. The tastings are organized for groups of up to 16 people and include the tasting of a selection of wines, accompanied by tastings of Sicilian products that pair well with the labels proposed.

Description of the Quasale Catarratto of Mustazza

The grapes of Mustazza’s Catarratto Sicilia DOC, class of 2022, are harvested manually from vineyards located at an altitude between 350 and 420 above sea level. The 2022 harvest was excellent from a qualitative point of view, with grapes with a rich polyphenolic content, both white and red. Those of Catarratto, at the centro of Quasale, have been enhanced by soft pressing and a careful selection of the grapes, vinified at low temperature, durante steel. At the end of fermentation the wine rested sur lie for 6 months before being bottled.

The Catarratto Quasale label perfectly represents the link between the wine and its land, with a glass enclosing the vineyards. An image that communicates the fullness of this Sicilian white. Let’s taste it!

Tasting of Catarratto Quasale a fine di Mustazza

Mustazza’s Quasale Catarratto is love at first sight. His spirit is as bright as the color that shines from the glass. A golden nectar, with a shade as dense as the scents it releases. Its olfactory picture is summery, at times exotic, fresh and juicy at the same time, with sour and sweet quaderno that intersect. The aromas are reminiscent of peaches, nectarines, pineapple and litchi, orange blossom and broom flowers, enriched by a vegetal and mineral background that recalls sea salt and medicinal herbs.

Both durante aromas and durante taste, a tasting durante which you can find everything, which is why Catarratto Quasale wins together for taste and consistency. A harmonious and pleasant taste durante which the sweeter olfactory quaderno blend with the balsamic and refreshing ones, contributing to a very long and intense persistence, with savory and fruity returns.

A white of great complexity and which drinks wonderfully. At the table, then, it is a guaranteed success.

Mustazza’s Catarratto Quasale: pairing advice

This Sicilian white is so good, so harmonious durante all its aspects, that you can easily combine it with different dishes. Perhaps to its breadth of sensations it may seem too much for an aperitif but, durante this case, it would be able to act as a and food at the same time! To best appreciate it, I recommend trying it alongside first and second courses based acceso fish white meat, even if it also makes excellent company for truly vegan recipes.

Mustazza’s Catarratto Quasale is the perfect choice to accompany rich grilled fish, sea bream red snapper baked durante foil, spaghetti with seafood, turbot durante a potato crust, indole with sardines, swordfish rolls, ravioli with artichokes, bruschetta with babaganoush, chicken curry with vegetables, roast rabbit with olives and pine nuts, sweet and sour prawns, a pad thai chicken sautéed with almonds and ginger.

The delicious abundance of this Sicilian white makes it travel beyond borders even durante pairings!
