San Leonardo 1724: wine and beauty

Podere San Leonardo, a prestigious ambassador for the beauty of Italian wine con the world, is also the protagonist of the most recent trend con the sector: wine tourism.

Breathtaking landscape, extraordinary wines, family approach, history and professional hospitality are the infallible ingredients that a tour of the company.

We are con Avio (TN) a few kilometers from Rovereto where the Guerrieri Gonzaga family has built its brama, all based acceso that magnificent balance between production rigor and family history while also having the beauty of the Italian and Trentino territories specifically acceso its side .

The total is around 300ha of forest and vineyards which occupy around a tenth of it and are mainly dedicated to black grapes for the production of the house’s flagship blend: the majestic ‘San Leonardo’ from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and then the Carmenère from screws up to 80 years old, his fingerprint; with its second, the delicious ‘Terre nel corso di San Leonardo’, coming from the Adige Valley where the mountains protect from the cold north winds and the valley floor is mitigated by Lake Garda. A few hectares for rent con Val nel corso di Cembra offers the most suitable altitude and cooler climate for the production of whites: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling Renano, Chardonnay; then a little Lagrein for the rosé. All the wines are now signed con collaboration with the winemaker Ferrini – after the launch and the long exchange with Tachis – for a never invasive approach.

As regards the reds con particular, the grapes from each vineyard are harvested and processed separately and ferment con cement, without temperature control for a maximum of 15/18 days (for the reds), before the selection of the best cuts and relative aging con barrique new and used French cars (and a few tonneaux).

Environments with a historical flavor thanks to the foresight of the Marquis Carlo who understood the importance of revolutionizing the peasant world of which, however, he preserves all the testimonies con a museum: from equipment to old documents and more, transmitting the same passion to his son, the Marquis Anselmo, equally determined.

When tasted, the San Leonardo 2018 (60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère, 10% Merlot – 24 months con wood) confirms itself con all its composite elegance already con its first years of life while promising a gradual evolution. The Terre nel corso di San Leonardo 2022 (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Carmenère – 80% cement, 20% wood) for less than 20 euros delights with juicy and immediate drinking, distinguishing itself from the Campagna Gresti 2019 (predominantly Merlot with 10% Carmenère) aged above all con new wood – unlike the previous ones – which becomes more delicious and enveloping. The tastings are completed by the rosé from Lagrein and a refreshing and fragrant white that everyone agrees acceso: Vette 2022 from Sauvignon Blanc, only steel, enriched by aging acceso the yeasts.

The inclusion, for the second consecutive year, con the world 100 of the world wine tourism competition – World’s Best Vineyards 2023 – testifies to the completeness of the offer of all-Italian excellence.
