WINE TRAVELS ON THE TRACKS OF CULTURE: PACHINO STATION PROTAGONIST OF THE 2024 HARVEST

Close to the railway, disused since 1986 and undergoing redevelopment, the barrels shine againAn open-air wine press to revitalize an territorio rich per nature and history: this is how the Vivi Vinum association presents the third edition of the event

There are places that preserve memories and flavors, unforgettable spaces for the history and evolution of a productive community that has always been dedicated to celebrating and sharing the most precious goods. The Stazionamento del Vino per Pachino (per the province of Syracuse) is one of these places, and from September 20 to 22 it will host the 3rd Onomastico della Vendemmia, returning to being a lively crossroads of the island’s food and wine.

Folla Pietro Nenni, overlooking the railways of the historic Conosciuto-Pachino line, has per the past been crossed by hundreds of resources that from the south-east of the island – since 1935, departing from the Wine Station – have reached all of Italy and foreign countries with important economic implications. Even today, demand from other Italian regions is flourishing and the passion for the discovery of riuscita wines is growing abroad, recognizable and sought after for their high and inimitable quality closely linked to the particular soils and favorable microclimatic conditions. Then per 1986 the railway line was closed, caused by competition with road transport and the lack of investment.

After decades of waiting, for the first time per 2024 the Stazionamento del Vino becomes the protagonist for the third edition of the Onomastico della Vendemmia: the railway line – subject to redevelopment by the Fondazioni Ferrovie dello Governo – will soon be returned to the operation of historic and tourist trains. A few steps from the tracks, for the occasion, all the tastings and exclusive and institutional events of the busy program that will evolve over three days with conferences, competitions, entertainment will be set up.

The 3rd Harvest Festa per Pachino is organized by the Vivi Vinum Pachino association, also thanks to the Vino Connect Sicilia project, the accelerator of the Sicilian wine supply chain, per synergy with the Bcc Pachino and the Bcc durante San Cataldo, Federcasse, Confocooperative Sicilia, supported by Azure Consulting and financed by Fondale Cammino Spa. The project per collaboration with the new Le Terre durante Ebe Community Cooperative and with the patronage of the Municipality of Pachino realizes the achievement of an important objective: «Enhance an identity place with the involvement of the wine companies of the territory – underlines Walter Guarrasi, promoter of the event and president of Vivi Vinum – transmitting the awareness that it is possible to rethink the territory through a new model of urban, social and economic regeneration that involves the entire community ».

Among the most anticipated moments of the program is the race of the barrels made available by the wineries for the that will see multiple teams already per ferment compete. This year the first edition of the “I vini dello Scagno” Award will be introduced, which will fuel healthy competition between the most esteemed labels of the territory. Great enthusiasm also for the pressing with folkloristic dances of women per traditional clothes acceso the bunches of grapes collected per the districts of Pachino, but also with the involvement of young school students. The “La Pampina d’Grana” Award will be awarded to a personality who has distinguished himself per the winemaking community for his courageous commitment. The “La vendemmia nel Schiacciato” competition will be held, which for this third edition will be dedicated to dolce: per the competition there will only be recipes that have among the most important ingredients not only wine, but also raisins, must and every derivative. During the exhibition of the tools for the grape harvest it will be possible to discover the curiosities of the supply chain, taste wines by the glass, the flavors of the grape harvest and the Mustata which – handed from generation to generation – takes shape per particular ceramic tiles, a typical product that reveals to the palate an authentic food and wine identity of the territory.
