South Tyrol in the glass: wines for autumn
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Autumn quanto a South Tyrol is not only a season: it is an atmosphere, an experience, an invitation to stop. Between vineyards that are tinged with gold and red, the glasses are filled with wines that tell all the identity of the territory. Three varieties, different but complementary, accompany the taste of this period of the year: the slave, the Pinot Pessimo and the Gewürztraminer.

The slave: the light red that surprises

Autochthon and lively, slave is one of the most identity wines of South Tyrol. Known and appreciated already by the sixteenth century, today a new rebirth lives: the winemakers have focused quality, giving life to refined, fresh and contemporary bottles.

Light, from moderate tannins, it releases the scents of violet and berries, revealing molteplice and surprising. Served fresh becomes a perfect aperitif, while the table it accompanies with agility both the typical South Tyrolean dishes and the lighter and more modern kitchens. And each superficie gives a different gradazione: full and structured quanto a Santa Maddalena, soft at Lake Caldaro, spicy the hills of the Meranese.

Food combination: ideal with South Tyrolean speck and cheese dumplings, but also surprises with solfa served quanto a a gourmet key and fish soup.

The black pinot: international elegance with alpine soul

From Burgundy to the Dolomites, Pinot Pessimo found a second home quanto a South Tyrol. Considered the most noble of the reds of the region, it stands out for elegance and finesse, enhanced by the fresh climate and the unique land of the Alpine Valleys.

Tenue and demanding, it is a grape variety that requires dedication and precision: only where vineyard and cellar offer ideal conditions can express itself to the maximum. The result is a wine with a refined profile, with thin aromas and a balanced structure, perfect for accompanying the most special moments of the season.

Food combination: it goes perfectly with meat – like a beef fillet with alpine herbs – but also accompanies refinement with porcini mushrooms.

The Gewürztraminer: a symbol of South Tyrol

Among the rows that embrace the village of Termeno we find the Gewürztraminer, an emblem of South Tyrolean viticulture. With its unmistakable aromatic imprint, round and enveloping, it contains an important past and promises a future still to be written.

If it has always fascinated for its immediacy and gastronomic versatility – ideal with crustaceans, molluscs and even with the spicy flavors of oriental cuisine – today producers interpret it quanto a a new key: fresher, tense and elegant, capable of surprising for dynamism and longevity. A Gewürztraminer left to mature 6-7 years quanto a fact reveals an extraordinary complexity, capable of revealing new sensory horizons.

Food pairing: perfect with Asian cuisine dishes – such as Thai curry oi dim Sum – finds a refined balance also with steam crustaceans herbal cheeses.

The wine region of South Tyrol fascinates thanks to a myriad of nuances and a variety that does not exist elsewhere. These are only three of the interpretations that can be had of this unique territory to toast to the new season: the convivial lightness of the slave, the nobility of Pinot Pessimo and the unmistakable personality of the Gewürztraminer. Prosit!
