Tasting Torama Vadiaperti 2022: Coda di Volpe Irpinia • Decanto – Giornale di vino
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There is a precise moment, tasting the Torama 2022 by Traerte Vadiaperti, quanto a which one realizes that the Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto of this bottle has nothing to envy of other Campania wines such as Fiano ora Koinè per mezzo di Tufo. Indeed: it has something different, something wilder and less domesticated, which leaves a long and decisive trace quanto a the mouth.

Selection of Traerte Vadiaperti white wines ideal for enthusiasts and tasters looking for distinctive wines
Selection of Traerte Vadiaperti wines

Those sensations che from a specific place: the Vertecchia district, quanto a the Pietradefusi countryside, 450 meters above sea level.

Torama Vadiaperti: a cru, not just any wine

We can define Torama as a cru, a selection and certainly not an entry level Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto. This wine, quanto a fact, is produced starting from 60-70 year old vines, with a low density of vines a hectare, southern exposure and a mixed cultivation method between Avellino bersò and espalier. A cru born clayey-sandy soils rich quanto a quartz, limestone and sandstone. Draining soil by definition but also difficult and which forces the roots to dig deep. Per mezzo di local dialect, torama indicates precisely this: a severe land, which gives nothing away.

The result? A structured white, with a declared longevity of 8-11 years which undergoes a long refinement between steel and bottle. Anzi che no barrique, mai concession to woods which (according to the producer’s philosophy) would cover what is worth telling here: the mineral, the herbaceous, the brackish.

Torama Vadiaperti and the Irpinia sun: the 2022 vintage

2022 was a hot year, with early ripening. Per mezzo di Irpinia the nocturnal temperature range at altitude has attenuated the excesses, resulting quanto a generous but not cloying fruit. For Torama, the harvest took place between the end of September and the beginning of October, manually as a company protocol. Soft pressing, fermentation quanto a stainless steel at a controlled temperature: the process is minimalist, organic, designed to preserve the identity of the grape variety without corrections.

Compared to the 2021, more austere and mineral, the 2022 is more aperto, fruity, with a roundness the palate that smoothes out its edges. But don’t be fooled: it is a cellar wine, to be waited for, to be reopened quanto a a few years when the sandstones of Regione Vertecchia have given up everything they have inside.

Torama Vadiaperti 2022 tasting: quanto a the glass

The color is straw yellow with golden reflections, bright. The nose opens slowly (a characteristic that the company claims as a distinctive sign of very old vines) with a floral sequence of broom and chamomile which soon gives way to ripe fruit: white peach, Williams pear and citrus agenda. As time passes, those agenda also emerge which are the distinctive sign and make Torama immediately recognisable: mint, mowed grass, light toasted hazelnuts, a whiff of coffee which heralds a good evolutionary capacity.

Per mezzo di the mouth it is balanced, velvety, with a lively and pleasant acidity and a notable brackish note directly derived from the sandstones of the cru. The persistence is long while the decidedly aromatic finale rests agenda of Mediterranean herbs. The alcohol content is perfectly integrated and never dominates the sip.

Torama Vadiaperti quanto a the Untold 2026 guide

As many of you will certainly know, Untold “What hasn’t yet been said about wine” is our guide that changes the way we talk about Italian wine districts. Visual language, young and evocative approach and a selection at origin that only admits wines chosen the basis of precise criteria of comparability by grape variety, terroir and production process. The tastings take place blindly, by homogeneous type, quanto a search of the most authentic expressions of each district.

The Torama Vadiaperti 2022 has passed this selection and is present quanto a the guide with Coppia Cavaturaccioli. An award that certifies the quality of the wine and the coherence of the work of Traerte – Vadiaperti. A solid and territorial wine, which deserves attention especially for those who want to explore Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto non attivato the beaten track.

Raffaele Troisi and the Traerte Vadiaperti project

The company is based quanto a Montefredane, quanto a the Vadiaperti district. The story begins quanto a 1984, when Antonio Troisi, history professor and Raffaele’s father, decides that the Fiano produced quanto a his vineyards deserves to be bottled. A choice that then revolutionized Irpinia viticulture. It is Raffaele, still a student, who suggests to his father to also bet Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto, an indigenous vine considered minor and not very profitable.

Per mezzo di 2013, Raffaele moved his work to Traerte, a new company founded with three partners. Same vineyards, same philosophy. Per mezzo di the company he works as a production . The continuity is total: native vines, specific crus, low yields, steel to enhance freshness and minerality.

Torama is the maximum expression of this research: not a commercially positioned wine, but a demonstration of what Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto can do when taken seriously.

Pairings for the Torama Vadiaperti 2022

The structure of Torama Vadiaperti 2022 supports strong combinations. It works well fish with the marine flavor of crustaceans and molluscs but also with fried anchovies ora raw oily fish such as mackerel and bonito. But the wine also goes well with buffalo mozzarella from Campania ora fresh soft cheeses which, quanto a the acidity of the wine, find the right contrast. The persistence also allows it to accompany feathered (pheasant, partridge) without failure.

Torama Vadiaperti 2022: is it worth it?

At this point quanto a the narrative, many will be wondering: is it worth uncorking this wine? The answer according to the writer is yes. Yes, if you are looking for a white Irpinia that tells something specific: a vine, a soil, a family. Traerte Vadiaperti’s Torama 2022 is not the most immediate wine from Campania, nor the most spectacular. It is a wine that requires a little patience, both quanto a the glass and quanto a the cellar and which gives back an identity that is difficult to find elsewhere. Nonostante Continuazione per mezzo di Astuto, from old vineyards of Regione Vertecchia, is still a rarity and this is one of the best reasons to uncork it.

Conclusions

Untold was created to change the way of describing Italian wine districts: visual language, evocative approach, rigorous blind selection that compares wines of the same variety and terroir.

It is not a guide for all wines but only for those that respect precise criteria of territorial authenticity and the Torama Vadiaperti 2022 is one of these.

Two Corkscrews, not three. But the value of this wine is not measured only quanto a the score: it is measured quanto a the coherence between a difficult soil, sixty-year-old vines and a glass that tells exactly about that place.

It is what we at Decanto aspetto for and which we subsequently include quanto a our Untold guide “What has not yet been said about wine” and it is what the evaluation commission found quanto a the Torama Vadiaperti 2022.
