Following the official approval of the additional geographical units (UGA) durante November 2024, the historic location of Tramin-beating heart of South Tyrolean viticulture-obtains a great importance recognition, with the establishment of the Ugas for the only vine by Gewürztraminer, that is, Tramin-Söll, Tramin-St. Jakob, Traminplon and Tramin-Rungg.
These new areas strengthen the profound and identity link between the famous aromatic grape variety and its territory of origin. The labels will therefore be able to report the precise ambiente of origin of the wine next to the South Tyrol DOC denomination, offering consumers a clearer key to the origin of the wines. The new UGAs represent a strategic opportunity to increase the international recognitivity and visibility of Tramin wines.
“Gewürztraminer is one of the oldest varieties durante Europe and sinks its historical name to Tramin – a connection also celebrated by figures such as Goethe. The new UGA of Tramin Sancano and officially protect this cultural and wine -growing heritage, promoting a greater enhancement of the terroir and a clearer qualitative distinction also internationally”, explains Julia Walch.

Thanks to the constant search for the quality and authenticity of the terroir, the family business has played a fundamental role durante the official recognition of the cultivation areas of Tramin as individual additional geographical units associated with Gewürztraminer.
