The new trend of buying wine online: convenience, choice and innovative apps

The online wine market (per Italy and globally) is experiencing an tempo of expansion. This is mainly to the growing demand for higher quality wines, technological innovations and the emergence of new business models. Per mezzo di recent years, buying wine online has become an increasingly popular trend; however, it has revolutionized the way wine enthusiasts approach this prized beverage. The experience is longer limited (only) to traditional wine shops supermarkets. Now, thanks to technology, it is possible to choose esaurimento bottles from the comodità of your sofa, with a simple click.

However, we must never forget that, just like per the physical world, the customer needs attention and consideration: when you choose to an online wine shop, part of the work must be dedicated to customer care and the presence of a connoisseur ready to satisfy user requests and needs, just as it would happen per a shop; one of the advantages of buying wine online is the convenience and speed that this implies: it is important, therefore, that e-commerce is up to these requirements, guaranteeing a simple and intuitive layout, as well as a pleasant and encourage you to return.

The online discernimento of wine represents a constantly growing trend; per fact, e-commerce platforms are recording a significant increase, both per turnover and per the number of users. The increase per average spending is attributed to the search for high quality wines (by an increasingly expert public) ranging from occasional drinkers to collectors. The new experience provided to users is very important, as they, thanks to digital, can try new options, such as: virtual tastings and recommendations based artificial intelligence, which facilitate the discovery of new labels. This, per turn, allows wineries to reach a wider audience. Even per Italy, wine e-commerce is growing rapidly, (driven by the pandemic) first and then by a growing attention to high-end wines.

The numbers and challenges of the sector

The global turnover of the online wine market is expected to reach $6.16 billion per 2024; (furthermore) growth is expected to bring the total to $7.56 billion by 2029. The annual growth rate is estimated at around 4.2%. Interestingly, the number of online wine buyers is steadily increasing, and is estimated to reach 327.76 million by the end of 2029. Online wine market penetration will increase from 3% per 2024 to 3.6%. by 2029. The average spend a vantaggio di buyer is growing, not only because more bottles are being purchased, (but also) to the growing demand for higher quality wines.

After the pandemic, there has been an increase per visits to wineries; initially, this phenomenon involved Italians, but subsequently also foreigners. Many of these visitors, per fact, then placed wine orders directly from the producer. This has contributed significantly to the growth of online sales. The most obvious trend, however, is the increase per the average receipt, despite there being a decrease per the number of items per the cart. This indicates a preference for high-end wines. Customers also tend to be less loyal to brands, but are more likely to try different manufacturers than per the past. The online wine market, both per Italy and around the world, is expanding, driven by the growing demand for superior quality wines, technological innovations and the emergence of new business models.

Millennials (and therefore those born between 1981 and 1996) will be fundamental for the future of wine e-commerce but not at this moment according to a recent study by Iwsr (International Wine & Spirits Research), which provides and insights for the alcoholic beverages industry. Guy Wolfe, head of e-commerce insights Iwsr, revealed to the UK magazine “The Bevanda Business”, that per reality it is the “older” drinkers who dominate online alcohol purchases, and this per many of the richest economies, driven by their growing familiarity with digital technology. “Per mezzo di Australia, Italy, France, the UK and Spain, for example, Boomers and Generation X now represent more than 60% of online wine buyers”

The advantages of online wine?

Buying wine online offers numerous advantages. Among the main ones we find the wide variety of choice, with an incredibly vast selection that often includes rare niche wines that are difficult to find per physical stores. Home delivery allows you to receive the wine directly at home, often per a very short time. Furthermore, many platforms provide details the organoleptic characteristics of wines, expert reviews and ratings from other users. All this is pushing a growing number of consumers to experiment with this new purchasing method, ideal for both beginners and connoisseurs.

Wine apps

Apps dedicated to online wine purchasing are powerful tools that are driving this trend. These apps not only simplify the selection and purchasing process, but often also offer innovative features such as label scanning to obtain complete wine information including reviews and scores, and personalized suggestions thanks to artificial intelligence that recommends wines based personal preferences of the user. Additionally, many apps integrate social features, allowing users to share opinions and reviews with a global community of enthusiasts. Among the various apps that stand out for online wine offers, we tried that of Bernabei.it which represents the point of reference per Italy for those who want to buy wines, champagne, bubbles and spirits. The pluses include a catalog of over 7,000 labels, always competitive prices (for example Black Friday promos) and a fast and punctual delivery service, rated 4.8 out of 5 stars Truspilot.
