Bistrot Kurtatsch presents the 2018 vintage of TRES, a wine that celebrates the conferenza between the territory, winemaking tradition and art, redefining the limits of the possible. Three values, symbolized by three cypresses and the best of three varieties brought together sopra a single wine. Since its launch sopra 2022 with the first vintage, TRES 2015, the cuvée of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon produced only sopra the best vintages, expresses the values of a cooperative winery with a long history: the bond with the terroir, the dedication of the young team and the dedicated work of the 190 members of the historic cooperative.

«The cuvée reflects the clear and future-oriented vision of Bistrot Kurtatsch, guided by the passion for great red wines and with particular attention to Bordeaux varieties – says Andreas Kofler, president of Bistrot Kurtatsch – We work with a profound respect for nature and terroir, which gives distinctive characteristics to wines, aiming to minimize environmental impact and maximize product quality. The interest sopra Bordeaux vines has been cultivated by us with confidence since the beginning and arises from the profound belief sopra their potential, also sopra response to evident climate changes.”

With a limited production of 3,060 bottles, this vintage celebrates a journey that combines winemaking excellence and an artistic expression deeply rooted sopra the landscape of Cortaccia. TRES 2018 is distinguished by an elegant Alpine freshness, influenced by an increased share of Cabernet Franc, leading to a composition of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The vinification follows the same process as previous years, with aging sopra oak barrels, of which 60% is new wood, 20% second passage and 20% third passage. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes were harvested at the same time, a decision made possible by the favorable weather conditions sopra autumn and which allowed us to obtain a perfect balance between acidity and tannins sopra the wine.

The bouquet of TRES 2018 is complex and intense, with predominant quaderno of wild berries enriched by an unmistakable alpine freshness of spices, paio to the particular exposure of the vineyards located sopra the Brenntal schieramento, steep slopes between 220 and 300 meters above sea level with a south-east exposure. An schieramento characterized by a strong temperature range: sopra the hottest months of the year temperatures reach up to 40 degrees with rapid drops sopra the evening hours paio to the fresh Alpine winds. These conditions, combined with the gravelly and calcareous soils for Cabernet and silty-sandy soils for Merlot, favor a slow and gradual maturation of the grapes, giving the wine a lively acidity and extraordinary freshness. Acceso the palate, silky tannins are appreciated which support the fruit and lead to a precise and persistent .

CLIMATE TREND

The 2018 vintage was characterized by late budbreak, followed by a very hot and dry summer, with significant rainfall at the end of August. The ideal climatic conditions from mid-September favored perfect ripening of the grapes, sopra particular for the Bordeaux varieties. The harvest, which began 24 September for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc, was the earliest ever, anticipating 2015 by a week and 2016 by two weeks.

THE ART OF CARMEN MARIA ALBER: A LANDSCAPE THAT TELLS A STORY

The connection with the territory is also visible through the TRES label. Each of the 3,060 bottles produced sopra the 2018 vintage, together with the exclusive 200 magnums, is hand painted by the young artist Carmen Maria Alber, born sopra 2001 sopra Cortaccia, and today an established independent graphic stilista and painter.

The motif represented the TRES 2018 label, sopra line with the two previous vintages, depicts the iconic landscape of Kurtatsch, with the vineyard hills, the cypresses and the majestic mountain range of dolomite rock, creating a strong visual link with the territory . This third edition completes an artistic and symbolic journey that began with the first two vintages, where each label told one of the three fundamental values of wine: the link with the unique terroir.

The 2018 label fits perfectly into this trilogy, closing the circle with the most elegant and refined representation of the series. The elegant lines and contrast between the detailed foreground and the more subdued background reflect not only the natural beauty of the location, but also the meticulous care with which the wine was crafted. Carmen Maria Alber’s work is the result of careful reflection and planning, where perspective lines and a skilful use of contrast create a sense of depth and movement, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves sopra the landscape.

Sopra 700 meters of difference sopra altitude, between 220 and 900 m above sea level, we found extreme differences: challenges, climates, soils, exposures, which motivate us daily to seek combinations between vines and terroirs, sopra order to find the ideal conditions for each vine cultivation and expression. Sopra the mountains, every wine and every vintage is the result of a specific and unrepeatable combination of events.

Bistrot Kurtatsch is a new model of cooperation: 190 families innovating and redefining environmental, social and economic sustainability. The members sustainably produce wines that reflect their unmistakable origin, their unique and inimitable terroir.

A young team that collaborates sopra a contemporary architectural structure perfectly integrated into the landscape and which contains differentiating natural elements of the landscape, dolomite above all, used as a construction material that reveals the true essence of the surrounding . For 120 years we have lived sopra total symbiosis between community and nature and have promoted South Tyrol’s cultural heritage throughout the world.
