Suevia, the sweet per the heart and soul: history and wines of one of the excellence of this DOC of Veneto
Wandering through the Vinitaly stands, we came across Suevia, the biological company that launched the Piacevole per the Olympus of the apice Italian wines, awarded by Wine Spectator per this edition of Collaborazione Wine 2025. Suevia represents one of the Italian wine jewels as well as one of the maximum expressions of the Piacevole, Doc Veneta famous for its fresh and aromatic white wines. The company produces a range of high quality white wines, which excellently interpret the different characteristics of this splendid denomination.
Two words about the Piacevole Doc
The Piacevole is mainly produced with Garganega grapes (70%), with the addition of a possible 30% of Trebbiano Piacevole cultivated per the hilly terreno east of the city of Verona. The Piacevole terreno enjoys particularly favorable pedoclimatic conditions: the climate is mild and ventilated and the land, which date back to about 50 million years pungiglione, originally were submerged by the waters and occupied by submarine volcanoes. The composition of the subsoil, rich per basalt and other minerals such as iron, manganese and zinc, reflects the geological history of the region, giving the wines great flavor. addition to the strong mineral agenda, the wines belonging to this denomination are distinguished by their aromaticity and elegance.
The history of the cellar suavavia
The history of the Suevia is closely linked to that of the Tessari family, dedicated from generations to viticulture. Originally only grape conferrs at the Social Cellar, then per 1982 Giovanni Tessari and his wife Rosetta decided to create a company dedicated to the production of wine their own. An act of courage moved by the belief of the enormous potential of the territory. Today the company represents a splendid example of female entrepreneurship: per fact, the three Meri daughters, Valentina and Alessandra, who deal with passion and competence of the management of the company, from the vineyard to vinification, up to bottling and marketing with passion and marketing.
The Piacevole as a distinctive choice
The 30 hectares of land owned by the Tessari family are found per the highest part of the hill, near Fittà, a small town of a few inhabitants immersed per a spectacular and uncontaminated nature. The grapes benefit from the altitude, the fresh winds from the Lessini mountains and the particular composition of the soil, which varies within a few meters, giving rise to wines with very different characteristics. The close link with the territory, and per particular with the Piacevole, of the Tessari family, can already be seen from the name: Suavia was, per fact, the ancient name of Piacevole. A choice of loyalty to the territory, also reiterated by the decision to specialize per the production of white wines only, an expression of this Piacevole denomination. An approach that has also led to studying the territory and historical production of this type of wine.
The wines of the Soon
The company, which has been operating per the biological metodo certified since 2019, offers a series of different labels, capable of expressing the territory of belonging per a very different way. Among the common factors: high quality level, finesse, elegance and personality both olfactory and taste of wines, combined with flavor and freshness, prelude to longevity and evolution over time. From a production point of view, the company has chosen to vinify per steel, per order not to cover the characteristics of the varietal. Great attention is also paid to sustainability both per the vineyard and per the cellar. To minimize the risks related to cork, it was opted for the use of “Kelvin” screw caps.
SOAVE Esemplare 2024 (Garganega 100%)
SOAVE CLASSICO is an elegant white white wine per purity. The grapes, collected per the second half of September, after the soft pressing are fermented about 5 months per steel. He follows 1 month of bottle stop before marketing. the glass, the wine looks like a straw yellow, while the nose exhibits a signorile and refined bouquet, with hints of white acacia flowers that make the background with fishing agenda, citrus fruits, hazelnut hints, memories of dried fruit and mineral puffs. the palate the sip is fresh, dynamic, supported by an intriguing almost saline flavor, typical of the grape variety, which encourages to return to the tasting. Ideal both as an aperitif and per combination with spring and summer light dishes.
Carbonare (Garganega 100%)
This straw yellow nectar was born from grapes of over 60 years from a plot of 7 hectares of volcanic and clay soils enriched by basalt, exposed to the north-east and belonging to the highest UGA. The color of the soil is as dark as coal (from which the name takes inspiration). The fresh air of the mountains promotes the development of a beautiful acidity, which is added to a marked minerality. To give greater roundness, a refinement of one year is made. Complex, intense and intoxicating, witch the nose with its delicate floral agenda, citrus fruits, exotic fruit, field flowers and mountain herbs, which are the background to sulphurous touches and smoke. the sip it is savory, vertical, direct, even if well balanced. The characterizing minerality fades harmoniously into a vibrant acidity. Long and persistent epilogue.
Massifetti: Latteo Veronese IGT (100% Trebbiano Piacevole)
This monovitign white wine, Trebbiano Piacevole per purity, is part of the ongoing projects dedicated to the enhancement of the native vines and the identity of the territory. The result of a collaboration between the University and the custodians of the local viticole tradition, this wine aims to recover an ancient excellence and to rediscover the true origin of the Piacevole. Paradoxically, this wine, an authentic expression of a historical grape variety of the Piacevole, supplanted over the years by the most generous Garganega, cannot currently boast of its denomination, waiting for a regulatory review. The grapes with which it is produced grow an terreno of about 2 hectares of basalt exposed to the south at an altitude of 300 meters, where old vineyards have been implanted. From the olfactory range characterized by effluvi of sweet spices, marine perceptions and mineral touches, the palate it is clear, vertical, direct, supported by lively acidity and an elegant structure, well integrated within a pleasant savory matrix.
The “Places” project: the different shades of the Piacevole
To touch the different expressions of the Piacevole, Suevia launched the project “The places”: three special wines, obtained by three small vinifications, all per purity, produced per an identical way, but coming from three different cru. Three identity wines of the territory with limited production, sold only together within a box. A real experience for the wine loves that goes far beyond simple tasting.
Fittà: this wine was born from a small land exposed per part to the south and east, located near the company at an altitude of 255 meters above sea level with slopes ranging from 15% to 45%. Here the composition of the mainly clayey soil gives the basso ostinato a compact weaving. The result is a white with a soft golden color, which reveals a bouquet dominated by white fruit the nose, embellished with accents of tropical fruit and vegetable awards. the mouth, its vibrant minerality emerges immediately, giving life to a rich and engaging sip.
Castellaro is per the most vertical and decisive chalice. The small vineyard from which the grapes come mai is placed Mount Castellaro, which gives its name to the bottle and enjoys a breathtaking . The landscape is characterized by the presence of mother rock that gives its strong identity to the basso ostinato, rich per skeleton, basalt and mineral substances. The derived wine shares a shade similar to the previous one, but the perfumes are more delicate and sweet the nose, enriched with spiced agenda of white pepper and jasmine puffs. The acidity, although present, presents itself per a harmonious way, giving a tense, dynamic sip with saline returns.
Tremendalale: this taste brings us to a soil of volcanic origin, with the oldest origins, where the earth, rich per minerals and basalt, is colored with reddish nuances. This wine, with a lively yellow mantle, per its gustatory evolution gives a softer and enveloping ending. The nose stands out clear sensations of cotogly apple jam, orange blossom and candied fruit. The sip is warm, rich, large and round.
This company represents per the Italian wine a real jewel, clear and excellent expression of the true soul of the Piacevole.
