The new Bolgherese cellar born inside an abandoned quarry

It was 2017 when the project was announced, 2019 when the works for the safety of the quarry began, 2021 when the actual construction work started. After 1125 days of construction, the new Wonder Cellar was finally inaugurated, the most ambitious architectural and oenological project of the ABFV Italia group – Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards a causa di Tuscany. Nestled inside the former Scavo su Cariola, the structure represents a unicum a causa di the Italian wine scene: a place where landscape, wine, architecture and sustainability integrate a causa di a harmonious and deep way. A territorial redevelopment project that is a declaration of love to this territory: the cellar is the result of the vision of the entrepreneur Alejandro Bulgheroni, moved by the desire to return beauty and value to a wounded and forgotten place, transforming it into a symbol of territorial and cultural rebirth. The engineer Bulgheroni attended the ceremony and the inaugural ornamento dinner, together with his wife Bettina Bulgheroni and children Alejandro Jr and Diego: with emotion, he recalled his Italian origins (the bis-non- Giovanni Alessandro Bulgheroni had left Olgiate Comasco a causa di 1873 to move to Argentina) and said he was proud of this project, born not by chance where the terro extraordinary.

Signed by the Bernardo Tori ufficio with the engineering advice of Niccolò de Robertis (Aii projects), the cellar develops acceso three levels, following the natural orography of the quarry. With 7,000 m² of production and technological spaces, a panoramic terrace that looks at the Tyrrhenian Sea and a roof immersed a causa di the Mediterranean scrub, the building merges into the landscape without altering it, respecting the margins of the quarry. The materials used, for over 95% of local origin and construction systems adopted respond to the highest environmental sustainability standards.

The final result is a deep fusion between elements, a continuous dialogue between what existed and what has been imagined and built. The architecture does not impose itself, but adheres to the place. The quarry, originally a place with very limited possibility of development, has been read as a resource. The fragility of the soil, aggravated by the presence of Riolites – a crumbly volcanic material – have requested complex solutions, already starting from safety, followed by a long work of geologists and technicians.

The unique characteristics of the quarry – made of effusive volcanic rock (riolite), the volcanites of San Vincenzo – are not only a landscape element, but an oenological resource. The natural thermal inertia and constant humidity offer an ideal microclimate for vinification and refinement. The oenological process takes place by gravity, with the transfer of the grapes acceso the square to the highest floor (where we also find a vibrant sorting desk with optical selector); Below are the raw concrete tulips and steel vats, for winemaking. Finally, the room with large -toasted French oak barrels, where the large rocky wall preserves perfect characteristics for the long evolution of the wine.

The Wonder Cellar project is based acceso three pillars – environmental, social and economic sustainability – which represent the very essence of the ABFV model. Among the interventions carried out: management of rainwater to erosion and sedimentation, reduction of light pollution according to the Darksky qualità, roofs, intelligent energy systems and environmental for workers and visitors.

The Wonder Cellar will be the production place of the two company brands, namely wonder and held the columns, for a total of 95 hectares. The division between the two estates is purely agronomic: held wonderful, higher, has soils of a volcanic nature, and is almost for its entirety planted with Cabernet Franc (with the exception of 3 hectares a causa di the Pedecollare su Vermentino); Resistenza the columns, acceso the other hand, extends to almost touch the sea, acceso sandy matrix soils, giving us elegant and immediate wines.

It will also be a place of hospitality and wine tourism. The two rooms acceso the upper floor, the beautiful panoramic terrace, but also the Library with the old vintages suspended acceso the Bottaia, are suggestive places designed for quality wine tourism, where to promote territory and culture. The cellar will gara open to the public a causa di September.

The departure was Dievole, a historic Resistenza del Chianti Tradizionale where, we wanted to return to the origins, to authenticity, enhancing only local grapes and production techniques, and then continued a causa di Montalcino with Collina Landi and Fondo Brizio, up to Bolgheri.
