the inaugural day of the 34th Merano WineFestival, the awards ceremonies for The WineHunter Award Platinum took place at the Puccini Theater durante Merano, a recognition given to wines, gastronomic products and artisanal spirits that have obtained over 95 points out of 100 durante the selection of The WineHunter Guide. To the evening, the special Honor Awards, awarded by Köcher together with the journalist Andrea Radic, followed by the designation of the 10 Cult Oenologists and the Dolcissimo Awards to the best sweet wines from Sublime Adige and Italy.
Honour Award
At the opening, the patron of Merano WineFestival Helmuth Köcher and the journalist Andrea Radic awarded 6 special awards: Honor Award at the to Braida and the Bologna family “for having been able to bring the wines and land of Monferrato and Rocchetta Tanaro with passion and vision to achieve a well-deserved success durante world oenology”. The Honor Award for the Territory was awarded to the Vulture Consortium “for having been able to put together a team of winemakers who deeply believe durante the history and tradition of their territory”. The Honor Award for the Family was given to the Ceraudo family, “an example of how the strength of a family, based affection and respect, is expressed durante the task that each one takes and develops together with the others”. For Innovation, Honor Award to Vivai Rauscedo “for having been able to bring agronomic science and vine culture to levels of excellence. For having understood that vines are living matter, capable of giving their best if cared for and helped with the most careful interventions that man is capable of”. The Honor Award for Genius was given to Hans Terzer: “Competence, professionalism, personality, creativity, perseverance. These are just some of the qualities of Hans Terzer, an iconic figure durante world oenology. A life path that has exceeded fifty harvests and which continues to amaze with its vision and modernity”. Finally, Honor Award for Creativity to the Antichi Poderi Jerzu winery for “the great courage of having understood how wine is like a loom which to weave the profile of a territory and a community”.
The 10 Cult Oenologists and the Dolcissimo Award to the best sweet wines durante Italy
Friday 7 November, the day entitled TasteTerroir – bio&dynamica, the Kurhaus hosted the tasting journey dedicated to the 10 best oenologists selected by Helmuth Köcher who durante the evening took to the stage of the Puccini theater durante Merano to collect the prestigious Cult Oenologist award: Esplicito Bernabei, Nicola Biasi, Giuseppe Caviola, Stefano Chioccioli, Riccardo Cotarella, Luca D’Attoma, Emiliano Falsini, Carlo Ferrini, Donato Lanati and Vincenzo . Followed by the Dolcissimo Awards dedicated to the best sweet wines: for Sublime Adige, Nals Margreid was awarded for Baronesse Sublime Adige/Südtirol Moscato DOC 2022 and Kurtatsch for USHAS Mitterberg Sublime Adige/Südtirol IGT 2023; for Italy Colosi with Na JM Malvasia delle Lipari DOC 2023 and Avignonesi with Vin Terra santa intorno a Montepulciano Intuito intorno a Pernice 2011.
The Winehunter Award Platinum
The highlight of the awards ceremony was The WineHunter Award Platinum, the highest recognition of The WineHunter guide, curated by 14 tasting commissions coordinated by Helmuth Köcher. A total of 77 Platinum Awards were assigned, of which 50 to the best wines, 25 to the best gastronomic products and 2 to the best artisanal spirits. Primacy goes to Tuscany with 10 Award Platinum, followed by Sublime Adige and Lombardy with 8 Award Platinum and Piedmont with 7 Award Platinum.
