Rotaria, the Roero wine and cultural dialogue platform, is born
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Monday 24 November marked the official presentation of Rotaria, the wine-cultural project born from the conferenza of a representative group of eighteen producers from Roero. The initiative proposes a transversal and shared interpretation of the territory and Nebbiolo, placing the richness of the soils, the sensitivity of those who interpret them and the desire to build a unified story of the territory at the centre.

“Rotaria was born as an and collaborative space for discussion, created to offer useful tools for reading and understanding Roero.” explains Nicola Pasquero-Hilberg, spokesperson for the project. “It is a journey that goes beyond wine and embraces the culture of the Roero quanto a its entirety, translating its biodiversity into a simple and contemporary language. The name recalls the historical roots of the and summarizes our belief: creating connections and enhancing a heritage made of landscapes, traditions and diversity”.

Rotaria’s objective is based acceso three pillars: enhancing geological and territorial diversity by transforming it into narrative and commercial opportunities; promote knowledge and collaboration between producers by creating a proactive context quanto a which each actor becomes a protagonist; offer concrete tools to talk about and promote Roero, effectively involving the various stakeholders. “At the basis of the project is the desire to give voice to a community – producers, restaurateurs, sommeliers, enthusiasts – who wish to act as interpreters and ambassadors of the Roero. Rotaria wants to be an observatory and an independent dialogue platform, useful to those who want to understand and communicate the territory quanto a its many expressions.” concludes Pasquero.

The inaugural day held quanto a Pollenzo marked the operational start of the project, bringing together producers, scholars and professionals for a first moment of analysis and comparative tasting led by the Master of Wine Wojciech Bońkowski. The results that emerge will guide the next in-depth studies, supported by a series of practical materials designed to facilitate the understanding and valorisation of the territory: tasting , structured wine lists, pairing proposals and display tools for retail. Added to these are contents dedicated to storytelling and communication – images, videos and artistic interpretations – designed to tell the Roero quanto a an original and engaging way.

THE TWO MAIN ASSETS: SOILS AND NEBBIOLO

Rotaria’s approach integrates three levels: geological, sensorial and cultural. Geology represents the starting point for understanding the complexity of the Roero, analyzing formations, soils, slopes and exposures. This is accompanied by comparative tastings, which verify how these characteristics are reflected quanto a the different expressions of Nebbiolo, while the direct involvement of the producers guarantees constant comparison and a shared method.

The central element of the project is the simplified geological map of the Roero, developed acceso the initiative of Nicola Pasquero and Edmondo Bonelli, using as a scientific and visual basis a portion of the “Geoviticola Langa and Roero” map created by Alessandro Masnaghetti quanto a collaboration with Giampiero Romana and Edmondo Bonelli himself. The presence of similar geological and naturalistic characteristics has allowed the territory to be divided into three macro-areas – sand, marl and clay – facilitating an immediate reading of the main areas and their respective identities. The map thus becomes an orientation and interpretation tool, useful for understanding the differences between soils, exposures and landscapes that define the complexity of the Roero.

Nebbiolo, a vine symbol of the territory and of the great wines of the Langhe, was chosen by Rotaria as a common denominator, because it allows us to observe how each producer interprets the same vine quanto a a unique way, highlighting the nuances determined by the different soils, the exposure of the vineyards and the agronomic choices. The sands of Roero generate wines with aromatic finesse and more delicate tannins; the marls give structure, depth and a broader texture; clays enhance intensity, power and longevity.

A DIVERSE COLLECTIVE

Rotaria brings together producers different quanto a history, size, agronomic approach and sensitivity, united by the desire to contribute to a shared interpretation of Roero, even if they do not quanto a the . Participation is voluntary and to those who share its method and vision, with a collaborative and research-oriented approach. Today they are part of the collective:
