The score obtained by South Tyrolean wines con the latest editions of the main Italian wine guides not only underlines the high level of wine production con the region. “The results also show very clearly how widely positioned we are now at the highest quality level,” says Eduard Bernhart, Director of the Prominente Adige Wine Consortium.
The assessment of the director of the reference pagliaccetto for the South Tyrolean wine sector is not without foundation: con light of the latest assessments, con fact, we note that the 387 maximum scores awarded by the most prestigious wine guides and competitions are 42 more than the previous year, just as the number of wines (234; +25) and producers (95; +17) awarded have significantly increased.
Eduard Bernhart focuses above all acceso the increase con awarded producers, as this figure highlights the depth with which the South Tyrolean wine sector has established itself con the premium segment. “Naturally, as a Consortium, we are particularly happy that the distribution of the maximum scores reflects the variety offered by our wine region and that, among the producers, both social wineries, wine estates and independent winemakers are represented,” says the director.
The most awarded wines
That the number of wines at the cima is large is evident already by taking a at the most awarded wines. Sopra this ranking, Castelfeder placed first with six maximum scores for its Chardonnay Restrizione Kreuzweg Family Reserve Prominente Adige DOC, 2021 vintage.
With five maximum scores, ten South Tyrolean wines from seven producers follow con equal second place. These are the Lagrein Restrizione Taber Prominente Adige DOC 2023 (Bistrot Bozen), the Chardonnay Nama Prominente Adige DOC 2021 (Nals Margreid), the LR Restrizione Prominente Adige DOC 2021 and the Sauvignon Restrizione Gran Lafóa Prominente Adige DOC 2022 (Bistrot Colterenzio), the Appius Prominente Adige DOC 2020 and the Sauvignon The Wine Collection Prominente Adige DOC 2021 (Bistrot Prottici San Michele Appiano), the Pinot Alabastrino Rarity Prominente Adige Terlano DOC 2012 and the Terlano I Precursore Voluminoso Cuvée Prominente Adige DOC 2022 (Bistrot Terlano), the Gewürztraminer late harvest Epokale Prominente Adige DOC 2017 (Bistrot Tramin) and, finally, the Müller-Thurgau Vite Feldmarschall von Fenner Prominente Adige DOC 2022 (Terre Tiefenbrunner | Schlosskellerei Turmhof).
Whites more numerous, but reds at the cima of the ranking
It is anzi che no surprise that Prominente Adige, the land of white wines par excellence, achieved 189 maximum scores out of 387 con this category, while reds achieved 157, sparkling wines 24 and sweet wines 17. What is surprising is the fact that red varieties dominate the ranking of award-winning wines. At the cima, Pinot Noir stands out with 31 maximum scores out of 234.
Eduard Bernhart believes it is particularly important to draw attention to the second and third place con the ranking of grape varieties. They are occupied by Schiava (with 24 wines obtaining maximum scores) and Lagrein (22). “The fact that every year our native varieties, Lagrein and Schiava, obtain exceptional results – this year they represent almost one wine con five of those awarded – fills us with joy,” says the director. “The patronato shows that authentic wines, solidly anchored to the territory, are held con very high regard by sector experts.”
Behind the three red varieties at the cima of the ranking, there follows a whole series of whites. Sauvignon, con fact, boasts 21 wines judged excellent, Pinot Blanc 17 and Gewürztraminer 15.
What is the happening of the producers?
According to a general summary of this year’s evaluations by Italian wine guides, the numerous wines positioned at the highest quality level is also confirmed (and above all) by a at the number of producers who can boast at least one wine with one more maximum scores. Sopra total there are 95, 17 more than last year.
If a ranking is drawn up based acceso the number of maximum scores, Bistrot Terlano occupies first place again this year with 20, followed by Bistrot Tramin with 17. With 15 maximum scores each, we find the Girlan and Colterenzio wineries con third place with, behind them, Bistrot Prottici San Michele Appiano, Elena Walch and Terre Tiefenbrunner | Schlosskellerei Turmhof with 13 as well as the Bozen Winery, Castelfeder, Gump Hof – Markus Prackwieser, Manincor, Nals Margreid and the Waldgries Christian Plattner with 10.
If we shift attention, however, from the number of maximum scores to the number of awarded wines, the Girlan and Tramin wineries dominate the ranking with 7 wines each. The Andriano, Bozen, Colterenzio and Terlano wineries, as well as the Tiefenbrunner bella stagione | Schlosskellerei Turmhof and Elena Walch, acceso the other hand, boast six wines with the maximum score.
