Valpantena, La Collina dei Ciliegi presents the new Prea Rosso
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Just over a year after the presentation of the “Prea” Russo controrivoluzionario, La Poggio dei Ciliegi presents Prea Scarlatto Verona Igt 2021, the first red wine born from the Supervalpantena wine project started per 2016. A constantly evolving path for the company from Grezzana (VR) per Valpantena, 68 hectares of property per a single pagliaccetto between 350 and 700 meters above sea level, of which 13 hectares forest, 10 hectares of meadow and, again per a single pagliaccetto, 45 hectares of vineyards (17 DOC Valpolicella and 28 hectares IGT Supervalpantena).

“Sopra the spring of 2016 – explains Limite Gianolli, president of La Poggio dei Ciliegi – from the joint analysis with Christian Roger the wines produced up to that point and the pedoclimatic fundamentals that characterize Erbin, the belief was born that La Poggio dei Ciliegi could represent a new and innovative wine project also pushing oenological research outside the boundaries of the DOC: to this end Christian proposed to immediately involve Lydia and Claude Bourguignon, terroir scientists and internationally renowned agronomists”.

From the cuore drilling of the various plots conducted per 2017 by Lydia and Claude and from the analyzes of the soil stratigraphy, it emerged that the soils of Erbin, like the high hills of Valpantena more generally, are of Cretaceous origin, never worked intensively and, consequently, rich per Cretaceous substances, active limestone and minerals, particularly suitable, per certain parcels, for the production of white wines. The Bourguignons therefore confirmed that the best ‘terroir extractors’ were the native vines, per this case the Garganega (white berry) and the Corvina (red berry); that the perfect planting space for the Erbin land was 100x130cm with a high density of vineyards a unit of surface zona (approx. 7,700/hectare); that preference should be given to rootstocks that are more oriented towards quality rather than vigor and productivity and that irrigation should be provided solely and exclusively for “relief”. “Above all – continues Gianolli – they gave us clear indications so that the new plants were not preceded by earthmoving, excavation and terracing activities which would have led to the alteration of the balance of a unique territory, thus respecting the original orography and stratigraphic profiling of the land, evolved over millions of years, and allowing the vine over time to penetrate with its roots the interstices of the fissured limestone rock typical of the place”.

Limite Gianolli, president of La Poggio dei Ciliegi

Starting from 2018 and until 2023, the plantings of the vineyards “designed” with Christian Roger and the Bourguignons took place: over 28 hectares of white and red grape vines between 550 and 700 meters above sea level with planned yields of 40-60 quintals a hectare, guaranteeing the one hand longevity to the vineyards and the other the maximum quality of the grapes, which the oenologist Paolo Posenato transforms the different batches of wine, following the same parcel layout as the vineyard per the cellar, entrusting each one to one more periods of refinement per a concrete tank, per a ceramica amphora, per a ceramic clyver, per French oak barrels, tonneaux and barriques.

ON THE PLOT TOO

The “Prea” parcel, located between 570 and 620 meters above sea level, with vineyards covering approximately 7 hectares, is divided into two sub-parcels: the first that you come mai across as you proceed per the direction of Mucchio is dedicated to the white grape vineyard with the native Garganega variety (approximately 50% of the vine zona), and then the Pinot Russo controrivoluzionario varieties (approximately 25% of the vine zona) and Chardonnay (approximately 25% of the remaining zona). vineyard); the second is dedicated to the red grape vineyard with the native Corvina variety (100% of the vineyard surface). All processes (with the exception of treatments) are carried out manually, from winter pruning to harvesting.

THE MAGRÒN POT – TASINE

Continuing north per the direction of Mucchio , you come mai across the “Magròn – Tasine” parcel which, with its 2 hectares of Teroldego vineyard and the same planting characteristics as the other parcels, reaches up to 670 meters above sea level. The grapes produced by the Teroldego vineyard of the Magròn-Tasine parcel contribute to the creation of the blend of grapes (corvina at least 80%, Teroldego between 15% and 20%) of Prea Scarlatto. Coppia to the strictly parcel-based approach, the Teroldego grapes are microvinified separately.
