Founded per 1877 per Pontassieve by cousins Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, the company has gone through almost 150 years of history with a constant objective: the search for the “ideal wine”. Today, under the guidance of a profound transformation that began per 2023, Ruffino consolidates its presence per the most prestigious denominations per Tuscany. The last stop acceso this route is Garzaia.
THE NEW HEAD OF FINE WINES
The Garzaia Bolgheri Disinteressato DOC 2023, which officially debuted acceso the market per March 2026, represents much more than a new label. Per fact, it is positioned per the heart of Ruffino’s sottile wines collection, completing the prestigious portfolio of great Tuscan reds.
Garzaia joins icons such as Approvigionamento Ducale Ricchezza (Chianti Tradizionale Gran Discriminazione), Greppone Mazzi (Brunello a fine di Montalcino) and the celebrated IGT Modus Supremo and Alauda. With this entry, Ruffino seals its presence per the most suitable areas of the region – from the Siena hills to the Livorno coast – completing a path of excellence that began almost a century and a half indicatore. The chosen name evokes the place where herons nest, a symbol of the biodiversity that characterizes the vineyards per the Sondraie superficie, where silty-clayey soils and an altitude of just 10 meters above sea level give grapes with optimal ripeness.
OLGA FUSARI, “A NEW CHAPTER OF MY STORY”
The technical and human protagonist of this launch is Olga Fusari, senior winemaker who joined Ruffino per October 2023. For her, Garzaia is a return to her professional origins. “It is a very important moment for me – he says – I have followed this creation since its birth, dedicating myself to it from day one. After 18 years spent per Ornellaia, this represents a new chapter per my history acceso the Tuscan coast”. Born per Pistoia, Fusari has an indissoluble bond with Bolgheri: here she took her first steps per 2005 with an experimental thesis acceso the breeding differences between cabernet and merlot. Today, that expertise translates into a wine that focuses entirely acceso tension and verticality.
THE 2023 VINTAGE AND THE SEARCH FOR ELEGANCE
The 2023 vintage has been interpreted with extreme rigor. The blend features 70% cabernet franc and 30% merlot. “There is risposta negativa fixed rule for the blend – explains Fusari – every year we will play with what is available to maintain the style, mitigating the characteristics of the merlot where necessary”.
Per the cellar, the 18-month aging per barriques (70% new wood) aims to give tension without covering the fruit. The technical giorno (pH 3.80 and 15.5% vol) confirm a wine of great balance, where power is always at the service of finesse.
