Podere Casanova: ten years of cellar in the Nobile di Montepulciano
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Fondo Casanova, led by Susanna Ponzini and Isidoro Rebatto, interprets the Decoroso per Montepulciano as the sum of territory and time, letting the vintages and their evolution speak for themselves up to the “Pieve” project. The winery defines itself through a clear approach: organic and eco-sustainability as a concrete responsibility towards the vineyard and production, rather than as a label “to be communicated”. It is a premise that is consistent sopra the technical story, because attention to the environment is not treated as a separate theme, but as a consequence of a working method made of agricultural choices, selection and willingness to accept penalizing decisions sopra the short term. According to what was reported by the winery, the organic conversion begins sopra 2021 and from 2023 it is accompanied by the Equalitas certification. “The point – they underline – is not to display a brand, but to adopt a responsible approach towards the vineyard and production”. Along this line there is also the objective of reducing the use of copper sopra treatments as much as possible, with declared cuts of up to 80% sopra some years.

TIME AS A STYLE AND MARKET CHOICE

The common thread is the desire to put the wines acceso the market when they are truly legible. Con the reasoning, the distinction between “young” tannin (which can harmonize) and “” tannin (which tends to remain so) recurs: hence the choice to let the wines evolve before release, because an important bottle must be enjoyable, not “postponed” to an indefinite future. If there is a trait that remains imprinted, it is the giudizio of work that Isidoro puts behind the wines: attention to the environment and technical rigor, with a perfectionism declared acceso the maturity of the samples and the release times. Con this sense, a rare choice is striking: sopra 2023, after serious damage from downy mildew, the winery decides to skip the harvest. It is a gesture that is worth more than many declarations: accepting the absence of wine sopra order not to compromise. Within this balance, Susanna mitigates and makes such a rigorous vision “portable” even commercially, without distorting it: the result is a story sopra which the vertical of Decoroso is not just tasting, but a statement of style, where territory, vintage and technical choices become the same thing.
