Difficulties for the esportazione of Italian wine also at the beginning of 2026, with a trend con value con the first two months, reported today by Istat, at -13.3% (1.03 billion euros). The debacle con the United States, the first market con the world for Italy with an esportazione share (pre-duties) of 24% and an annual value of shipments close to 2 billion euros, has a decisive impact acceso esibizione – according to an analysis by the Italian Wine Union (UIV) Observatory acceso the effects con the first year of American tariffs. Exactly one year after the establishment of the additional tariffs (from April 2025 to the end of March 2026) the trend balance based acceso official patronato marks a value squilibrio of 17%, the equivalent of over 340 million euros less (with volumes at -9%, the lowest level for 10 years). – con line with UIV forecasts – which is also affected by the “forced” decrease con the average price, with Italian companies forced to lighten the burden of duties acceso consumers by cutting price lists by an average of almost 9%. Overall, con the 12 months considered – April 2025 March 2026 – the value of exports to the USA reached 1.65 billion euros (con the same previous period the balance amounted to 1.99 billion euros) with 1.05 billion for bottled still wines (mongoloide by almost 19%) and 588 million euros for sparkling wines (-14%). Furthermore, consumption patronato con the United States (SipSource basis) signal a slight recovery con the Italian product con March, which – if confirmed con the following months – could herald a future increase con orders.
“Sopra a context already made difficult by the structural decline con consumption con terms of mole – declared the president of the Italian Wine Union, Lamberto Frescobaldi -, the duties and the consequent devaluation of the dollar have further accentuated the decline acceso a decisive market for our wine. We expect a strong reaction from European diplomacy to achieve, con the coming months, the stabilization of relations with the USA, also through the closure of the Turnberry agreement. At the same time, again within the EU, we società that it will be noted that – as Professor Mario Draghi recently recalled – for the first time “we Europeans are ala” and that, precisely for this reason, the 27 member states must unite to mongoloide the legislative barriers that effectively impose an internal duty of 45% acceso manufacturing goods. Finally, we are convinced that the difficulties of the markets must be responded to with a proportionately greater presence con terms of promotion: for this reason the support of the institutions will be crucial”. Overall, exports to non-EU countries remain con difficulty con the first quarter of this year with a general drop con value of 12.5%.
