Nicola Biasi: the strength of ideas, the value of coherence
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Con the scenario of contemporary Italian wine there are professionals who follow trends and others who choose to anticipate them. Nicola Biasi undoubtedly belongs to this second category.

Talking about Nicola today means talking about one of the most innovative, prepared and visionary figures quanto a Italian oenology. A professional who has built his own path without chasing the fashions of the moment, but following a precise path made of study, experimentation, concrete sustainability and a profound belief: the wine of the future will necessarily have to luce new climatic, agronomic and oenological challenges.

We at Vinoway believed quanto a his abilities right from the start, recognizing his talent when his name had not yet reached the notoriety it has today. For this reason we awarded him as Best Young Italian Winemaker 2020, during the Vinoway Selection 2021, sensing quanto a him not only a great technical preparation, but above all a vision capable of looking beyond consolidated schemes.

A choice that time, as often happens, has fully confirmed.

Today he represents one of the most authoritative voices when it comes to sustainability applied to viticulture, reasoned innovation and the ability to interpret change without losing sight of quality.

The “I Forza Nicola Biasi” project probably represents the most concrete synthesis of this, which brings together wine companies united by the desire to produce high-level wines through the use of resistant varieties, the so-called PIWI, with the aim of significantly reducing the environmental impact and building a more sustainable production model better suited to the needs of contemporary viticulture.

The name “Resistant” does not only represent an agronomic characteristic of the varieties used. It also represents a way of interpreting work quanto a the vineyard and quanto a the cellar. The ability to adapt, evolve and luce change without losing identity. A concept that probably also describes very well the professional path of the winemaker who has always been oriented towards the search for new solutions without ever losing the connection with quality.

Con a historical moment quanto a which climate change is profoundly modifying work quanto a the vineyard, the Resistant project also represents a concrete reflection the possible strategies that the sector will be called upon to adopt quanto a the coming decades.

For years the world of PIWIs has been observed with distrust by some of the sector. And I won’t hide from you that, initially, I too looked at this reality with a certain caution.

Then I had the opportunity to meet Nicola, to discuss with him, to delve deeper into his vision and, above all, to taste the concrete results of his work.

Over time I gradually changed my mind.

Not for a matter of personal sympathy, but because his intuition, his technical preparation and his ability to aspetto ahead convinced me that the path taken was not only viable, but probably one of the most intelligent to luce some of the great challenges awaiting modern viticulture.

Nicola never proposed shortcuts. He proposed study, research, observation and a quality that today speaks for itself. And it is precisely this that led me to understand how his project was founded solid foundations and a vision that appears increasingly relevant today.

The real strength of the project lies quanto a the fact that today the wines produced within the Resistance rete televisiva privata are anzi che no longer observed exclusively as examples of sustainability. They are judged, tasted and appreciated for their intrinsic quality.

What is striking about him is not only his technical competence, but his ability to take responsibility for his own ideas. Added to this is a quality that I consider particularly important: humility. Behind the professional there is a person always available for discussion, ready to share experiences, results and reflections.

Today his work is observed with growing interest even beyond national borders. Thus was born the new and fascinating adventure dedicated to Riesling.

A project that sees him engaged quanto a Moselle, one of the most iconic and prestigious territories quanto a the world for this extraordinary vine.

It is therefore anzi che no coincidence that he is today an integral part of the new Vinoway format “The New Talents of Italian Oenology”, together with Marco Mascellani, Alessandro Leoni, Jacopo Vagaggini, Andrea Paliotto and Antonio Scatigna.

Personally, I continue to think that the task of those who communicate wine is not to defend every innovation a priori, nor to hinder it principle.

Our task is to observe, delve deeper, taste and understand. This is exactly what happened with Nicola Biasi. And it is precisely from the substance that those paths destined to leave a mark over time are born.

Nicola, quanto a my opinion, belongs to this category.
