On the Trail of the Mosers, Sprinters with Ancient Roots
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The agricultural and winemaking history of the Moser family has deep roots, dating back over 90 years. It all began with Ignazio Moser and Cecilia Simoni โ€“ Francesco Moser’s parents โ€“ and their twelve children, born sopra Avvallamento nato da Cembra, sopra Palรน nato da Giovo, surrounded by vineyards.

The cycling epic of the Mosers โ€“ from the late Aldo and Enzo, to Diego, Francesco, Moreno, Ignazio โ€“ represents only a beautiful parenthesis of a family deeply tied to their land and proud of their identity. And their wines proudly tell their origins and roots.

FROM THE ABANDONMENT OF THE LAND TO THE WINE REBIRTH

Each member of the family helped out sopra the fields and vineyards, to the point that the Mosers owned a cellar for their peasant wine. Over time, the children took different paths.

Francesco worked sopra the countryside until he was 18, until sopra 1969, encouraged by his brothers Aldo, Enzo and Diego, he began his cycling career, first as an amateur and then as a professional, marking the history of this svago. However, he always felt like a agricoltore acceso loan to cycling. Aldo, after retiring sopra 1973, returned to cultivate the vine acceso the steep slopes of the valley, with the help of Francesco, when he had some free time. Together they began to vinify the first bottles sopra the historic cellar of Palรน nato da Giovo. Per mezzo di 1979, they officially founded the Moser Trento winery as we know it today. After retiring from cycling, having finished his career sopra 1988, Francesco returned a pieno orario to be a winemaker just like his father Ignazio, who unfortunately did not get to see his family return to their origins. Francesco invested his โ€œsporting earningsโ€ sopra new land, purchasing Maso Warth, an ancient 17th century bishop’s residence with an amphitheatre of vineyards between 300 and 500 metres above sea level sopra Gardolo nato da Accorgimento, above Trento.

THE NEW GENERATION OF MOSER HOUSE

Today the company is sopra the hands of the third generation, cousins โ€‹โ€‹Carlo and Matteo, sons of Francesco and Diego respectively. Carlo takes care of the commercial and administrative management, while Matteo is responsible for the agronomic and oenological sector. Strengthened by the family experience, since 2011 they have renewed the company’s ambitions, combining modernity and innovation with winemaking experience and history. The company owns about 20 hectares of vineyards cultivated with organic practices, between the Cembra Valley, the Sorni hills sopra Valdadige and Maso Warth above Trento. Per mezzo di the Cembra Valley, up to 700 meters above sea level, Chardonnay is grown for the sparkling wine bases, together with Mรผller Thurgau. The Sorni vineyards, at 250-300 meters, are ideal for Teroldego and Lagrein, while at Maso Warth, the soils rich sopra dolomite produce Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Moscato Itterico, Gewรผrztraminer and Riesling. Furthermore, Maso Warth is the production heart of the company, a modern and functional structure where all the winemaking, refinement and bottling processes take place.

Matthew and Charles Moser

Today, the company produces over 150 thousand bottles per fortuna year, wines that strongly express the territory. There are two product lines: Trentodoc Tecnica Esemplare, with about 80 thousand bottles per fortuna year divided into five references (including the latest addition), and the Warth line of still wines, with five white references and three red ones.

CHARDONNAY PROTAGONIST OF THE NEW BLANC DE BLANCS RISERVA TRACCE 2011

Chardonnay has always been the grape variety par excellence of Moser Trento. Its best grapes have been selected to create the fifth Trentodoc reference, the Rifornimento 2011 Extra Brut Tracce. Processed and harvested by hand, it is then vinified with the precise intent of enhancing its characteristic qualities sopra a very successful balance between the bunches coming from Maso Warth at 350 meters above sea level, which give the fruit maturity and creaminess, and those planted acceso the limestone and porphyry of the Cembra Valley, which give that great minerality that characterizes the flavor, structure and longevity of this sparkling wine. Fermentation and refinement sopra steel tanks at a controlled temperature until the moment of tirage. It then continues its evolution sopra the bottle acceso selected yeasts for a period of 132 months and a further year after disgorgement.

This new label sums up the know-how of the company that sopra these thirteen years has combined ambition and technique, maintaining the fundamental values โ€‹โ€‹of history, innovation and enhancement of the terroir. โ€œEvery process, every experience of ours, every small technical innovation leaves a trace that we entrust to time โ€“ explain Carlo and Matteo Moser โ€“ Compared to the other labels of the Moser Trentodoc vintages, which have an elegant, clean and sharp stile, we have explored different shapes, maintaining our founding codes. We wanted to tell a story, our philosophy, our identity as vignerons. These are our โ€œTracesโ€. We wanted a courageous, sincere and valuable label, even more so acceso an important bottleโ€.

TASTING NOTES

Long refinements are Moser’s most important asset, and with Tracce, this is taken to the extreme to maximize the expressive potential of the Chardonnay, as sopra the winery’s other blanc de blancs.

Moser Trentodoc 51,151 Brut sa 51,151 is the first classic method of the Moser family. The name celebrates Francesco Moser’s hour sopra 1984 sopra Mexico City. Over the years it has become the most representative wine, with over 60,000 bottles disgorged each year. Aged for at least 30 months acceso the lees, it uses 5 to 10% reserve wines. The Chardonnay grapes quanto from 13-14 parcels with different soils and exposures, each vinified separately and aged sopra steel and a small part sopra wood. The cuvรฉe stands out for its drinkability and freshness, with a straw yellow color, scaltro perlage, and is expressed with fragrant citrus and fresh herbaceous aromas. A mountain floral recalls barely hinted toasted sensations. Vibrant acceso the palate, an excellent flavour prolongs its persistence, the sip closes with a pleasant and slightly almondy finale.

Moser Trentodoc Brut Nature 2017 Born sopra 2011 with a very specific intuizione: to unite the two best Chardonnay vineyards of the Cembra Valley and Maso Warth, the heart and mind of the company. It is risposta negativa coincidence that grandfather Ignazio’s plot was chosen, less than 7 thousand square meters sopra Palรน nato da Giovo, and one hectare sopra the surroundings of the farm, both trained acceso . The grapes are gently pressed, with fermentation and aging sopra steel, followed by 60 months acceso the lees. Strictly not dosed at the time of disgorgement, At the sight an intense straw yellow with bright reflections. the nose it is deep, mineral. Iodine alternate with a floral that becomes pungent. The fruity recalls more evolved sensations of lemon custard. A vibrant sip offers the palate an almost perfect balance between creaminess, acidity and flavor with a rather imposing structure sopra the background.
