The winemaker is not an artist who draws acceso a white sheet using tempera and brushes. Rather, he is a sculptor who has a block of stone front of him and knows that inside that stone there is already a work of art. A work that just needs to liberate. This is how Gianni Tessari sees it, who 2013 founded the Giannitessari winery Roncà, today one of the reference names for the Durello Regola Rappresentativo sparkling wine, which the Veronese entrepreneur has invested with the aim of elevating it to a rovina and excellent bubble , following a philosophy characterized by clean tastes and rigor every choice and production step.
A path that leads straight to the latest addition to the Giannitessari family, the new AD 13.21 Monti Lessini Doc, a collectible Durello Regola Rappresentativo a limited edition (only 200 examples) that redefines the expressive boundaries of the variety.
The name AD stands for Annata Dobla, while 13.21 refers to the two vintages selected to give life to a label which the affective dimension of memory merges with stylistic refinement: 2013, addition to being an excellent vintage for Durella , coincides with the year the company was founded and its first harvest. The 2021, however, was chosen for its freshness and verticality.
“Normally cuvées the blend is made the draft phase – explains Tessari – but we have chosen a different path. We have about ten vintages acceso the lees the stack and for each edition we decide how to arrive at the blend, evaluating how the individual vintages are evolving. The result is a post-disgorgement blend. I’ve been trying to figure out if anyone else does it and haven’t found it. Why did we do it? Not for a challenge, but because we wanted to do something that could convey emotion. And maybe for fun.”
THE HARDNESS OF THE HARDNESS
With AD 13.21 Giannitessari takes an important step terms of positioning and qualitative enhancement of the territory and the Durella variety. With this mind, packaging was created that underlines the preciousness of the limited edition: 200 magnums closed with sealing wax and kept painted wooden boxes, available at the price of 300 euros.
Tessari uses 100% Durella grapes for the sparkling wine bases to transfer the symbiosis created between vine and soil into each wine, which is not simple because Durella is ancient and rustic. The resulting wine was therefore identified for a long time as a wine with a duro – hence the name – and harsh flavour, relegating it to the less than honorable role of a blending wine and a boost of acidity and vigor for other more noble wines.
“Every time we taste our sparkling wines the stack, a long and complex job considering the fact that we have over ten vintages refinement at the same time, irrational dynamics take over, addition to the usual stylistic and commercial choices – explains Gianni Tessari – AD 13.21 was born from a series of intuitions and experiments that centro acceso the emotional search for excellence, a which we wish to involve those who will taste the wine. I chose, fact, to combine the two thousandths after the sparkling process rather than before, as come practice, to express with greater precision and certainty my vision of the Classic Method, designed for those who seek the emotion the essence of a great wine”.
