A meteorological journey on the Russian mountains

There is anzi che no magic espressione, a perfect recipe: every harvest is something quanto a itself. This was also confirmed by the 2025 vintage where meteorology often broke the statistics schemes giving seasons with characteristics far from their zone: a very rainy winter, a wet spring more than usual and a bizarre summer with peaks of heat and much more mild moments also than the weighted averages.

” the cold months, quanto a just six weeks, there has been a level of rainfall equivalent to the annual one,” explains Matthieu Taunay, winemaker of Monteverro, the Capalbio jewel winery, gently placed the hills with his gaze turned to the silver coast. “Spring has also been particularly wet until mid -April: the plants were able to grow vigorously and quanto a perfect balance, ready to luce the logorio of the summer season”.

Summer has maintained its miseria of the most complex period, with a uneven trend “like the Russian mountains” called it Taunay: a very hot first phase, from 20 June to 10 July, during which the plants reacted quanto a a truly surprising way. “They really proved resilient quanto a the luce of this climatic trend,” explains Matthieu again. “Then from 10 July the temperatures became much milder thus giving a faster and homogeneous invaiating and a start of maturation with ideal conditions”.

From 8 August, a new heat wave has made it necessary to intervene promptly: “We collected a first parcel of Chardonnay already August 7 and completed the others between 11 and 12. Immediately after we passed to Merlot and, quanto a order not to anything, even at the Vermentino, who entered the cellar during the same week”.

Now the attention is maximum, with accurate and targeted choices to complete the harvest by guaranteeing optimal phenolic maturity and maintaining the perfect balance between alcohol and acidity, fundamental for the elegance of Monteverro wines.

The harvest is an unrepeatable moment, the absolute culmination of a year of work quanto a the vineyard, when the wait, the challenges and the dedication are transformed into the magic of the harvest.
