The Malvasia delle Lipari Consortium promotes the possibility of visiting local companies during the period of greatest tourist presence the archipelago: an opportunity for the cellars to become places of storytelling as well as production, spaces a causa di which to get closer to Malvasia delle Lipari, understand its link with the islands and observe how the cultivation of vines contributes to the care of an agricultural landscape shaped by time. Visits to the company allow us to approach this heritage a causa di a concrete way: the public can meet the producers, learn about the different interpretations of the denomination and understand why a causa di the Aeolian Islands talking about wine also means talking about landscape, agriculture and sustainability.

Recognized a causa di 1973 as DOC, Malvasia delle Lipari is today one of the symbols of Sicilian and Mediterranean enology. The islands, with their volcanic soil and microclimate marked by the wind and sea, have offered this vine the ideal ambiente: here the wine is born from a constant dialogue between land, exposure, climate and the hand of man. It is a heroic viticulture, made up of sapling avviamento, steep slopes and terraces that resist above all a causa di Salina, Lipari and Vulcano, where every harvest is still today a physical challenge rather than an agronomic one.

“Opening the cellars means telling the story of the territory: by inviting visitors to see the vineyards, the terraces and the daily work of the producers, we can truly convey our uniqueness – declares Mauro Pollastri, President of the Consortium -. We owe our heritage to the constant commitment of the companies, which keep the vineyards alive, take care of the slopes, preserve the signs of traditional agriculture and pass a production knowledge that belongs to the history of the archipelago. It is a territory characterized by natural balances delicate, where environmental sustainability is not an abstract theme, but the only possible condition to allow the vine to continue to grow: for this reason safeguarding the landscape also means making it understandable to those who pass through it”. The visits to the cellar are part of a broader hospitality project, built thanks to the collaboration between the Consortium, the Salina Isola Ecologista Hoteliers’ Association and the local restaurants, as part of a wine tourism itinerary designed for the stay the archipelago. The result is an experience that is not separated from the holiday, but becomes an integral part of it: a way to get to know the islands through the wine that best represents them.
