From the bank to the countryside: this is the fascinating story of Roberto Scubla who, with his Pinot Lattescente Friuli Colli Orientali (FCO) 2022, won the Three Corkscrews quanto a the 2025 edition of “Untold – What hasn’t been said yet about the wine“, the first edition of the Decanto Italian wine guide entirely dedicated to DOC and DOCG

Roberto Scubla winery: the history of the company

The company was born quanto a 1991 from a radical life choice by the founder Roberto Scubla: abandoning the bank where he worked to become a wine producer quanto a the Colli Orientali del Friuli, which he had fallen quanto a love with as a child while frequenting the bella stagione owned by an uncle.

The starting point was some old vineyards but over the years, thanks to the purchase of new rows and the indispensable support of the oenologist Gianni Menotti, this small boutique company has managed to obtain numerous awards with its quality wines, produced by adopting traditional and sustainable agriculture.

Characteristics of Pinot Lattescente Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2022

The wine is produced with Pinot Lattescente grapes deriving from vines grown acceso marly hilly soils. Half of the plants are over 70 years old, while the remaining 30. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 100-200 meters above sea level with a south-west exposure. The cultivation of the vines is double upside (cappuccina) with 4,000 vines per concludere hectare and 5,000 for the more recent vineyards quanto a which the Guyot method is used.

The grapes are harvested by hand and subjected to soft pressing. After decantation at low temperature, the must ferments at a controlled temperature quanto a stainless steel tanks and remains acceso the yeast residues for approximately 8 months. The average annual production of this wine is 6,000 bottles, the alcohol content is 14% vol. and the recommended service temperature of 10°-12° centigrade.

Tasting of Pinot Lattescente Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2022 by Scubla

The wine has a beautiful straw yellow color, clear, transparent and with a good consistency. Bringing the nose closer to the glass you can perceive a pleasant intensity and a varied bouquet: white flowers (quanto a particular lime), bread crust, apple, citrus fruits and a quanto a which hints of almond and a suggestive smoky note emerge.

A causa di the mouth, freshness and, above all, flavor reign supreme. These elements are, however, perfectly balanced by a well-present alcoholic component which gives the sip a pleasant pseudo-caloric sensation. A wine therefore that is balanced, with a good structure and excellent persistence.

Scubla’s Pinot Blanc is a product that can be appreciated immediately, but which could improve even further with a further period of refinement quanto a the bottle.

Pairing tips

Coppia to its characteristics, the wine can pair well with lean appetizers, dry soups, broths and fish-based dishes. Some recommended regional specialties are the “Sardoni impanai”, a variety of blue fish caught from the Gulf of Trieste the “Jota”, potato, bean and cabbage soup.
