After a long period, I return to write a review, although, coppia to numerous professional commitments, this activity has become increasingly rare. However, the recent days of celebration have offered interesting ideas and, above all, the motivation necessary to resume this activity. I have been living and working per mezzo di Holland for over 25 years, but I am Sicilian, proudly Sicilian, and therefore during the binges of the recent festive days I obviously only drank Sicilian wines. Con this short review, however, I will only write about the wines of the Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone winery, the wines that, more than all, pleasantly surprised me.
I admit that, previously, I had the opportunity to taste the wines of this interesting winery only once, many years . I was just an adult and that time I accompanied an uncle of mine, acceso business, to the corporate headquarters of the Pollara family, who have always owned the Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone winery. Of course we left with a few cases of wine per mezzo di the trunk of the car. I have not had the opportunity to taste their wines since. With thousands and thousands of wineries the offer is vast and I like to change brands and wines often. However, let’s go back to the Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone winery.
The Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone winery today is a renowned winery located, as you may have already guessed, per mezzo di Sicily, with a long tradition linked to the territory and the production of quality wines. Founded way back per mezzo di 1892 by Giuseppe Pollara per mezzo di the heart of the island, precisely per mezzo di the hills around Corleone, with the aim of linking its history to the prestige of a past that has its roots per mezzo di local traditions.
The cellar is a perfect example of how the passion for wine and respect for the territory can merge into a single project. The Pollara family wanted to create a company that not only produced excellent wines, but which was also a point of reference for the valorization of Sicilian wine culture. The company philosophy is based acceso the adoption of sustainable winemaking practices, per mezzo di fact they adhere to the SOStain Sicilia project, capable of preserving the environment and obtaining grapes that fully express the characteristics of the Sicilian soil.
The Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone winery is located per mezzo di an ideal position for viticulture, thanks to the mineral-rich soils and the Mediterranean climate that characterizes Sicily. The vineyards extend over hilly terrain, which offers excellent exposure to the sun, and the proximity to the sea gives the terreno a freshness that is reflected per mezzo di the wines. The terreno is particularly suited to the cultivation of native Sicilian vines, which allow us to obtain unique, quality products.
Today the winery can count acceso approximately 200 hectares of vineyards, of which 60 are owned. Among the cultivated vines, Fumaggine d’Avola obviously stands out, the most famous Sicilian red vine, Idea, one of the most representative white vines of the island, but also Inzolia and Catarratto. Alongside the classic native Sicilian vines we find the inevitable “international” vines such as Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The company’s wine production is very broad and includes different production lines, suitable for all occasions, from the most informal to the more special ones that require more elegant wines.
Let’s now move acceso to the wines tasted. Acceso this last occasion I had the opportunity, and I must say also the pleasure, of tasting three different wines, all very well made and very pleasant to . Con particular, the wines that cheered up my recent days of celebration were the Sophia Fumaggine d’Avola Sicilia DOC, the Bianca per mezzo di Reggia Sicilia DOC and finally the Bello Orlando Syrah Monreale DOC.
Sophia Fumaggine d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2023 Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone
Obtained from organically grown Fumaggine d’Avola grapes vinified per mezzo di purity, this modern Fumaggine d’Avola presents itself with an intense and brilliant ruby red color, embellished with violet reflections that underline its liveliness and young age . Acceso the nose, the aromatic impact is enveloping and complex. It opens with fresh and fruity taccuino of black cherry, ripe plum and blackberry, then floral hints of violet emerge and an intriguing balsamic touch, with subtle hints of tobacco and cocoa that enrich the bouquet. Con the mouth, the wine shows a nice balance between freshness and softness. The attack is warm and enveloping, with and smooth tannins, despite its young age, which accompany a pleasant sensation of fullness. The acidity balances the structure, giving pleasant drinking. The final persistence is very good.
Bianca per mezzo di Reggia Sicilia DOC 2023 Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone
It is a wine obtained from a blend of two vines, Inzolia, one of the oldest and most representative native vines of Sicily, and Chardonnay, a and omnipresent vine throughout the region. At sight, it presents a brilliant straw yellow color, supported by delicate golden reflections that suggest maturity and intensity. Acceso the nose, the wine reveals an aromatic complexity. The scents are reminiscent of small white orange blossom flowers, fresh almond, yellow apple and a subtle minerality. The whole creates a harmonious aromatic profile, where freshness and pleasantness meet. Con the mouth, the wine confirms the promises made acceso the nose. Inzolia gives freshness and flavor, while Chardonnay contributes pagliaccetto and softness, giving a persistent final sensation. Con summary, a blend of Inzolia and Chardonnay that perfectly embodies the congresso between tradition and innovation.
Bello Orlando Syrah Monreale DOC 2023 Sovrano per mezzo di Corleone
A wine produced only from Syrah grapes. At sight, the wine has a beautiful intense red color, with violet reflections that enhance its youth and liveliness. Acceso the nose, the scents that emerge are those of ripe red fruits, such as cherries and small berries, accompanied by delicate spicy nuances, mixed with hints of chocolate. All very balanced. Con the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, with a present but gentle tannic texture, which gives elegance and structure. The acidity per mezzo di this case too is well balanced and gives a nice pleasantness to drinking. The finale is long and persistent.
Despite their differences, all three wines reflect a similar, modern production approach, aimed at satisfying consumers of the most sophisticated and demanding international markets, offering clean, rounded and stylistically impeccable products. Their price is around 14.00 euros per dovere bottle, euros more, euros less, and their quality-price ratio is certainly correct.
All three wines demonstrated notable versatility per mezzo di pairings. I had six bottles available, two of each type, which I tasted per mezzo di company, combining them with a wide range of dishes, even with lungaggine per mezzo di the box 🙂 Con conclusion, a good experience!
