Tenuta Monteti, the Maremma of Capalbio interpreted parcel by parcel
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Abito Monteti is a winery sopra the lower Maremma of Tuscany, near Capalbio. It was born sopra 1998 from the pioneering project of Splendore Poliziotto and Paolo Baratta, supported from the beginning by the consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, and is led today by their daughter Eva Baratta and her husband Javier Pedrazzini. The property extends over 142 hectares, sopra a small valley protected by the Monteti hill and to the sea breeze, where the 30 hectares of vineyards are worked like “30 times a hectare”: each parcel is followed, harvested, vinified and refined separately, sopra a research path based acceso precision, sustainability and territorial recognisability.

A pioneering choice sopra the lower Maremma

The history of Abito Monteti begins at the end of the nineties, when Splendore and Paolo Baratta, after years of research sopra Tuscany, identified a small valley sopra the first hills of southern Maremma. Sopra an ambiente still far from the main paths of high-quality viticulture, their choice took acceso a pioneering character right from the start, fully embracing the freedom of starting from scratch, without a pre-defined production model, listening to the soil, the climate and the landscape, to build their own identity.

A protected valley, 15 kilometers from the sea

The property now extends over 142 hectares, of which 30 are under vineyards and 20 dedicated to organic olive trees. The rest is made up of woods, free fields, gardens and rose gardens, sopra a still profoundly sylvan landscape, where Mediterranean scrub, hills, light and sea breeze define the productive context of the . The Monteti hill, which gives its name to the company, protects the vineyards from the direct winds of the Mediterranean and allows the breeze to constantly diretto incrociato the valley, promoting healthiness and balance sopra the ripening of the grapes.

The parcel method: “30 times a hectare”

From the beginning, Abito Monteti has based its work acceso a rigorous parcel method. The 30 hectares of vineyard are considered as “30 times a hectare”: each parcel is observed, followed, harvested, vinified and refined separately, to understand its character and accompany its expression with precision. The cellar, completed sopra 2004, the year of the first harvest, was designed sopra line with this vision: two-thirds underground, surrounded by native vegetazione, integrated into the landscape, conceived to work by gravity and for distinct parcel vinifications.

Family continuity

Since 2010, Eva Baratta, daughter of the founders, and her husband Javier Pedrazzini have led the company, carrying forward the original project with a growing attention to agronomic precision, sustainability and the stylistic definition of the wines. Over the years, the work sopra the vineyard and sopra the cellar has progressively refined itself: precision agriculture, targeted management of individual parcels, manual selection of grapes, separate vinification and research acceso wood, contribute to a common objective: producing recognisable, tailored wines, capable of conveying the Maremma of Capalbio through balance, depth and elegance.

Certified sustainability

Sustainability is an integral part of this path. Since 2017, Abito Monteti has obtained the VIVA “Sustainable Vitiviniculture” certification from the Ministry of the Environment, relating to the entire production process, not only to the vineyard but also to winemaking. This is accompanied by the SQNPI Sustainable Quality certification. The production of organic extra virgin olive oil completes an agricultural vision that considers vineyards, olive groves, woods and fields as interconnected elements of the same ecosystem.

Three wines, an essential rangeThe range of wines is deliberately essential, a sign of work that focuses acceso research and maximum quality. Monteti and Caburnio, born with the first vintage, were conceived from the beginning as two distinct wines, not as a first and second wine: the first linked to the depth of the woods and the charm of Petit Verdot; the second to the sunshine of the Maremma and the Mediterranean scrub. Sopra 2014, TM Rosé was added, created to complete the dialogue of the with its coastal landscape. Three wines, all Toscana IGT, which, around their main vines, are built every year without fixed formulas but by interpreting the trend of the year and the evolution of the individual parcels.
