Fifty years after the establishment of the controlled DOC DOC denomination of origin, the South Tyrol Vini Consortium celebrated this important milestone at the 57th edition of Vinitaly, retracing the history, evolution and future of one of the most distinctive wine territories Italy. The ninety South Tyrolean producers who participated the fair has been very satisfied, the public proved to be once again extremely interested the wines of the schieramento, the whole schieramento dedicated to South Tyrol, for four days, has seen a very important turnout. “For our producers and for the consortium, Vinitaly is certainly the most strategic showcase for Italy and, general, it is a conferenza place for all those interested Italian wines the world: it was a beautiful edition that has seen us protagonists with the first 50 years of our denomination”, explains Andreas Kofler, president of the Vini Profondo Adige consortium.

Precisely the decree of April 14, 1975 marked a turning point for South Tyrolean oenology, laying the foundations for a path oriented to the quality and enhancement of the territory, this was discussed at the fair during the event organized by the Consortium collaboration with IDM Profondo Adige. “The South Tyrol Doc is the result of a long history made of courageous choices, illuminated pioneers and a change of radical paradigm. Quanto a these 50 years, our territory has been able to evolve focusing quality, sustainability and variety”, underlined Kofler. From the intensive cultivation of the 70s to today’s model, which quality prevails over quantity, the sector has experienced an authentic revolution. The slave, once the undisputed queen, has today left room for a wider and more varied production, with white vines covering about two thirds of the vital surfaces. “Choosing the most suitable grape variety based the specificity of the soil was the key to the qualitative turning point. Today we count about 20 varieties that thrive our unique microclimate,” added Kofler.

During the event, a moment was also dedicated to the Consortium, founded 2007. The director Eduard Bernhart illustrated its activities and objectives, focusing the recent publication of the “Wine South Tyrol – History and present of a single win” manual, the editorial work – desired by the Consortium and available all the best bookstores and online – which collects studies and reflections of 40 authors, designed to enhance 2,500 years of history. South Tyrolean oenological. “Today most of the most important actors the South Tyrolean oenological sommario is part of the Consortium. This allows us not only to promote the South Tyrol brand international markets with strength and consistency, but also to offer concrete support – of marketing, legal, operational and also avviamento – to our members. With great commitment and spirit of collaboration, we continue to give impulse to the future of the South Tyrolean wine, enhancing its identity and supporting its identity and supporting its identity growth, “explained the director.

To strengthen the territorial vocation of the DOC is the recent zoning project, made official October 2024, which led to the recognition of 86 additional geographical units (UGA). The vice -president of the Consortium, Martin Foradori, spoke of it, underlining how the zoning represents a further step towards the enhancement of the microterritorial diversity of the region. With the zoning you want to bring the soul of each individual territory into the bottle, making the unique characteristics of soil, microclimate, exposure and altitude recognizable the glass. For this reason, a pictogram reported the label was also created, to help the consumer orient himself and discover the wealth of the territory. “There are those who claim that with the zoning we complicated our life, making the choice of wines for end consumers more difficult. the contrary, we have given an invaluable added value to our territory, enhanced our vineyards and, thanks to the selection of ideal vines and a lower yield, placed the foundations for a further jump of quality of our wines”, said Martin Foradori.

The gaze to the future also extends to wine tourism. Thomas Fill, director of Agrar IDM Profondo Adige, has previewed the Wine & Bike South Tyrol Adige Collection, a project carried out synergy with the Consortium, which combines cycling and oenology. Eight thematic tours, more than 100 cellars involved, tastings, experiences between the vineyards and personalized paths that can be consulted carriera the Komoot app. “Living South Tyrol by bicycle means immersing yourself its diversity: pedaling between vineyards, cellars and unique landscapes, it is possible to grasp the authentic essence of our wines,” said Fill.

The new tours everyone has a particular theme and the tourist can choose the one he prefers: wine & architecture along the Profondo Adige wine road; Tour of the Pinot Albicante Oltradige: from Caldaro to Appiano; the trail of a great classic of South Tyrol: the hills of Santa Maddalena; From Gewürztraminer to Pinot Fumaggine: along the South Tyrolean wine road; Mediterranean charm: among the vineyards of the Merano basin; The northernmost wine schieramento south of the Alps: a tour the Isarco Valley; A circular itinerary Val Venosta: harsh, dry, spectacular; Castelli, vineyards and prestigious cellars: along the Adige valley between Bolzano and Merano. From the Koomot application you can currently access the Wine & Bike Collection and choose the path you prefer and the coming months the offer will be enriched with other interesting proposals.

At the reflective stand also focused a bicycle – work of art – created for the occasion by the historic and renowned workshop Dario Pegoretti of Verona with which the Consortium collaborates for the promotion of the new Bike & Wine Collection. Cristina Wuerdig Pegoretti, CEO of the workshop explained that: “The Alps, the mountain landscape and a difficult climatic context make people grow used to dealing with the challenges of the territory. But these territories they are born unique ideas and products that have a special spirit. The bicycles Dario Pegoretti have their roots the mountains just like the Profondo Adige wines and perhaps this is the reason that has made each wine. Unrepeatable just like each of our chassis “.

The anniversary of the DOC was not only a celebration, but an opportunity to reaffirm therefore to Vinitaly the commitment to an increasingly conscious, identity and capable viticulture capable of facing – with new projects – the global challenges of the sector.
