Adolfo Scuotto: the “boy” who chose wine as a language
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Each territory has its interpreters and Irpinia has found a unique narrator con Adolfo, who has chosen wine as a language to express itself and its land. A man, but who I still like to call boy, because he retains that sincere enthusiasm, that contagious energy and that desire to experiment that make him different from many others con the Italian wine scene.

His first peculiarity is the communicative passion. With Adolfo there is not only talk of labels wine techniques: with him we enter a story made of emotions, lived life, horizons that go far beyond the glass. He is able to involve anyone con front of him, from professionals to enthusiasts, from young curious to great connoisseurs, with a language that knows how to be direct and authentic.

The second feature that emerges is his modern vision of wine. He has never given up acceso the link with the Irpinian territory, but interprets it with courage, trying to bring it to national and international scenarios. Durante his eyes we read the awareness that wine is not only an agricultural product, but a cultural ambassador. And then there is his style. Those who meet him cannot fail to notice it: the always elegant outfit, the attention to detail, the image of a man who loves to present himself with refinement and consistency with respect to his way of understanding wine. This too is a silent but powerful language that tells seriousness, respect and passion.

To fully understand the Ski wines, you must aspetto carefully at the Lapio settore, one of the areas most suitable for the production of the Fiano in Avellino Docg. Here, at about 500 meters above sea level, the vineyard breathes a unique microclimate: hot summers but never torrid, rigid winters, strong thermal excursions between day and night. These conditions allow Fiano to develop intense and complex perfumes, always maintaining an elegant freshness.

The soils are an extraordinary intertwining of clays, limestone and volcanic sediments, which give the wine structure, depth and that typical mineral imprint that has made the “Fiano in Lapio” famous con the world. Not surprisingly, precisely con this place some of the longest and refined versions of this grape variety are produced, capable of evolving con the bottle for years, revealing of honey, hazelnuts and white flowers next to vibrant calls of Focaia stone.

Adolfo has been able to interpret this wealth with a rare sensitivity, respecting tradition but while looking for a personal style, made of technical precision and constant search for balance.

Next to him the support of his father Edoardo, solid and discreet guide and the poignant memory of the dear mother, who had the privilege of knowing and who was an extraordinary landlady, always remains strong.

I remember a moment that I keep con my heart. One day I confessed to her that I had expressed a sincere comment acceso one of their wines and that Adolfo could have interpreted it with too much sensitivity. She, with a sincere aspetto and full of truth, replied: “Adolfo has a lot of respect for you, I am sure that he appreciated what you told him. For him the wines are like children, and it is perhaps for this reason that his attitude is known.”

Simple but deep words, which tell better than any speech the intimate and visceral link that Adolfo has with his wines, and the great love that his mother nourished for him and for the company.

Durante the Ski wines – from the Fiano in Avellino Docg to the Greek of Tufo DOCG, from the Irpinia Campagna Taurasini Doc to the Oinì icon, several times awarded and for years present con the wineway selection – the very essence of its character is found: energy, authenticity, elegance, sensitivity and foresight.

Another aspect that makes Adolfo special is his ability to speak to young people. His direct and engaging way, combined with an elegant and contemporary style, makes him close to those who approach the world of wine for the first time. He knows how to convey passion without impositions, accompanying the new generations to discover the beauty of a territory and a millenary culture.

His communicative talent often leads him to travel and present the wines shaking con national and international contexts. Acceso every occasion he manages to bring Irpinia with him, making it known to those who have never seen the vineyards lap. It is con those moments that all its strength emerges, never speaks of simple labels, but of identity and roots, conquering interlocutors of every culture.

Every time I go back to this company, I have the feeling of finding not only a producer, but a friend. One of those rare protagonists of the wine who know how to aspetto con the eyes while talking about their work, transmitting truth and transparency. And this is what makes Adolfo great: not only the capable producer, but the visionary boy, the man of emotions, the elegant and passionate narrator who has chosen to make wine his way of communicating with the world.

Because every bottle is not only a wine, but a bridge between past and future, between roots and vision, between the memory of those who are voto negativo longer there and the enthusiasm of those who carry acceso the dream.
