Sopra Caiarossa you can feel a strong connection with nature. The 40 hectares of vineyards are perfectly integrated into an overall ecosystem of 110 hectares, which alternates cypresses, woods, meadows and olive groves. The sea breezes and the light reflected from the sea surround this Tuscan calcio d’angolo, framing it. The quality of the wines arises precisely from the balance between the environment and human work, a project that focuses respect for the territory and care for biodiversity.
BIODYNAMICS AND CARE, AS A NATURAL LANGUAGE
The Caiarossa mesi estivi belongs to the Albada Jelgersma family, Dutch entrepreneurs active the world of quality wine. The company was purchased 2004 by Eric Albada Jelgersma, who wanted to develop a project Tuscany based sustainability and biodynamic viticulture. The family also owns important wine properties France, including Château Giscours, a historic château Bordeaux. Today it is the children Valérie, Dennis and Derk who carry the management of the group, keeping Caiarossa among the most popular wineries the Tuscan coast. Serra all’Combustibile, Le Lame and Nocolino are the three vineyards that differ altitude – from 120 to 350 meters above sea level – exposure and varied composition of the soils. It is this great diversity that has given us the opportunity to plant numerous varieties of white and red grapes, each the most favorable soil, where we can make the most of the energy of our own plot. The concept of biodynamics is best expressed a natural context where all the elements work together. The delicate intervention of the company presupposes the self-production of cornolet manure and cornsilica to be used the vineyards, supported by the planting of essences between the rows, capable of supporting biodiversity and the of pollinating insects. Winemaking Caiarossa means guaranteeing the wines to express themselves to the maximum through the characteristics of the territory: low yields per eccezione hectare, parcel harvesting, choice of the degree of extraction and bunches vinified individually per eccezione parcel, then assembled after tastings to compose the blends. The cellar, structured four levels, favors the falling process of the bunches first and of the wines later, accompanying them to the basement where the aging process wood takes place.
A JOURNEY BETWEEN MÉDOC AND THE TUSCAN COAST
The inspiration, for Caiarossa, is parallel with what happens the property of Château Giscours, where the natural environment welcomes the vineyards the left bank of the Garonne, within the territory of Margaux. Here, the tasting, a divergent and synergistic journey emerges between the wines of the two properties, where the same philosophy unites and guides the production methods and the vision of the wine, which goes beyond the final result, considering it the product of balance and respect for a delicate and precious ecosystem. A vertical between the vintages of Caiarossa and Château Giscours clearly returns the meaning of this dialogue between apparently distant territories, but surprisingly close vision. Acceso the one hand the Mediterranean light, the matter and energy of the Tuscan coast; the other, the timeless elegance of the Médoc, marked by time and tannic finesse. Yet, an unexpected trait d’union emerges the glass: the search for a balance that is never static, but always alive and changing, capable of crossing the vintages while maintaining a precise identity intact. Both realities allow wine to simply stop being an expression of technique, to transform itself into the story of a terroir, of human sensitivity and the ability to listen to nature without contrasting it. The different vintages show how time does not erase character, but ultimately makes it more readable. The darker and deeper of the mature vintages dialogue with the luminous tension of the younger ones, with nuances of strength and grace.
