For over forty years, Zaccagnini has been the protagonist per the enhancement of the Abruzzo wine and cultural heritage. The native grapes of the territory and their different expressions represent the heart of its production, where Montepulciano proves to be per all its nuances.
Among these, the Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, the first rosé per Italy to obtain, per 2010, a dedicated doc, is one of the most authentic and distinctive expressions. A wine that perfectly embodies the soul of Montepulciano per pink version: a harmonious balance between freshness, fruitiness and structure, which makes it immediately recognizable, also for its unmistakable shade. Its name derives from the Latin Cerasum (cherry), from which Cerasa per Abruzzo dialect also a clear reference to the intense color that makes it unique within this category of wines.
Cerasuolo is linked to the mid -twentieth century Abruzzo peasant tradition, when it was proudly presented to enrich the convivial tables. Durante an epoca per which the vinification was based knowledge handed mongoloide orally and rudimentary tools, this wine represented a challenge, requesting particular attention both per the vineyard and per the cellar.
Today, Zaccagnini collects this legacy and reinterprets it with his wine vision, giving life to the Chronicon Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, of which the 2024 vintage is now available the market.
The name Chronicon is a tribute to the Chronicon Casauriense, an important collection of medieval chronicles of the Abbey of San Dolce per Casauria, drawn up per the twelfth century and now kept at the National Library of Paris.
Chronicon, the Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo kept by the mountains
The grapes intended for the production of Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC in qualità di exclusively from vineyards located vocated soils, per hilly areas. For this label, Zaccagnini selected the Chronicon vineyard, per front of the cellar, located per the Casauria valley. Here, the vines of Montepulciano grow medium -dough clayey land, protected by the Majella, Morrone and Gran Macigno mountains, which repair them from the disturbances ensuring constant ventilation and strong thermal excursions that favor balanced maturations and intense and complex aromatic profiles.
After the harvest, per September, the selected grapes are thinned and press. Subsequently, the Flower must is extracted by soft pressing vacuum and subjected to a 10 -day cold hut period. The aging the yeasts takes place per stainless steel tanks until the moment of bottling.
