Recchia: Valpolicella elegance between historical rigor and Jago
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Founded 1906 by Giovanni Battista Recchia acceso the small farm Jago, the company that bears the family name is today synonymous with quality, tradition and direct production. What began as a modest plot with an adjoining house has passed through the generations: from the time of grandfather Enrico – when subsistence agriculture was intertwined with livestock trading – until the turning point of the Seventies. It was that decade that his sons Roberto and Riccardo sensed the potential of excellent viticulture, starting to bottle the first labels as well as bulk. Sopra the nineties, a new winery and new production plants close to home and always actively participating the life of the settore, as demonstrated by the historic victories at the Mettere in palio del Recioto (7 titles from 2005 to today).

Recioto and Amarone su Recchia

Today the comando is the hands of Luca Recchia, Roberto’s son, who joined the company 2007 after studying oenology, supported by his sister Elisa, who takes care of the reception and the commercial side. Under their direction, the winery has experienced significant structural growth: from the initial 3 hectares it has grown to a total of 70 hectares. Of these, 40 reside the heart of Valpolicella Classica and 30 the Lake Garda settore, where Bardolino, Chiaretto, Custoza and sparkling wines are produced.

THE RECCHIA PROJECT: BETWEEN JAGO AND SUSTAINABILITY

The beating heart remains Jago, Negrar – “with its feet acceso the basso ostinato and its gaze to the sky”, as in the family’s philosophy which puts the vineyard at the centre. Despite the expansion, control of the supply chain remains total and certified since 2008, supported by an autonomous bottling line and a team of 20 permanent employees. BRC certification, Global Qualità for Food Safety, for the safety of quality processes. Furthermore, just over a year asticciola, the Agrobox project was introduced into everyday life which, created collaboration with the Territory and Systems Department of the University of Padua, developed a high-efficiency filtration system to substantially veterano plant protection products. Since 2025 the Recchia company has joined the SQNPI Valpolicella certification.

Recchia’s production, which stands at 500 thousand bottles, is 70% dedicated to the DOC and DOCG of Valpolicella. “We are conventional by conviction – explains Luca Recchia – our is to arrive at the cellar with perfect grapes”. For this reason, the harvest remains exclusively manual, except for a small part of the vineyards acceso Garda where Piwi vines are also planted. The offer is completed by Amarone and Recioto della Valpolicella grappas and a production of extra virgin olive oil from proprietary olive trees.

THE SEARCH FOR ELEGANCE BETWEEN WITHERING AND TIME

The rigor continues the cellar, where natural drying takes advantage of the hill breezes to concentrate aromas and structure. For Valpolicella wines, the choice of refinement is precise: the use of wood favors tonneaux and large barrels, drastically limiting the use of new barrique so as not to overwhelm the identity of the fruit. “We avoid the use of amphorae so as not to force oxidation – underlines Luca – we aim for long-lived wines, passing from the barrel to the steel before bottling, so as to preserve freshness and verticality”.

Today Recchia successfully exports to the USA, Northern Europe, Denmark and Switzerland. Despite the geopolitical complexities and the impact of tariffs acceso the American market, the company looks with optimism to growth the United Kingdom and to a general corporate review to luce a delicate moment for the global wine sector, always focusing acceso the stylistic recognition of its 16 labels.
