The winemaker Scantinato Morellino nato da Scansano launches the San Bruzio Vermentino Maremma Toscana Doc 2023 acceso the market, a wine that challenges the traditional canons of the grape, exploring its evolutionary potential. With this label, the Maremma cooperative aims to enhance a Vermentino capable of maturing over time, expanding its aromatic and structural complexity.

“For some time we wanted to experiment with the prolonged aging of the Vermentino,” says Prospero Grechi, president of the winemaker Scantinato Morellino nato da Scansano. “San Bruzio was born to explore new dimensions of this grape variety, which Maremma has found its ideal ambiente”. The utopia is inspired by the analysis of the historical vintages of the Virmini Vermentino Maremma Toscana DOC vineyard, which has shown how the Vermentino can acquire depth over time. The name “San Bruzio” recalls the medieval canonical homonymous near Magliano Tuscany, a symbol of resilience and historical memory.

The vineyard, cultivated with a rammed cordon acceso sandblast soils at 120 meters above sea level, follows a harvest two phases: a third of the grapes is collected with optimal and refrigerated maturation, while the rest is left acceso the plant for two more weeks, favoring aromatic concentration. After a 48 -hour cold contact skin, fermentation takes place at low temperature for three weeks. A refinement of six months follows acceso the conclusione steel lees, before the bottling that took place July. The wine will be available starting from April 2024.

Scantinato Vignaoli Morellino nato da Scansano, half a century of history and territorial identity

Founded 1972, the winemaker Scantinato Morellino nato da Scansano played a key role the growth of the Morellino denomination of Scansano DOCG, of which it represents about 20% of total production. With 170 members, 700 hectares of vineyards and 5 million bottles produced every year, the cooperative is today a point of reference for Maremma viticulture.

The terroir plays an essential role the personality of the wines: soils rich skeleton and the proximity to the sea favor a vermentino with a marked Mediterranean flavor and freshness. The cellar, always attentive to sustainability, has embarked acceso a path of reduction of the environmental impact, obtaining important certifications such as Carbon Footprint and Viva Sustainable Wine. A commitment that is reflected the quality of the wines and respect for the territory.

San Bruzio and Fiorin compared

While sharing the same philosophy, San Bruzio and Fiorini present substantial differences. San Bruzio is a vermentine purity, while Fiorini includes 15% of Viognier, who contributes to giving wine a more creamy texture. The surge aging varies: six months for San Bruzio, three for the Fiorini vineyard. Both wines, however, are vinified exclusively steel, without the use of wood to preserve the purity of the fruit and the typical characteristics of the territory. The flavor, stylistic figure of the Maremma Vermentino, is well present both, as well as the freshness, which balances the structure and fatness of the wine.

San Bruzio Vermentino Maremma Toscana Doc 2023

Durante the glass, it is bright straw yellow, crossed by slight greenish reflections that highlight their freshness and youth. the nose, it offers an intense and refined bouquet: quaderno of fresh citrus fruits (lime and grapefruit), hints of pear, apple, apricot and exotic hints of melon. Over time delicate floral shades of linden, jasmine and ginestra emerge. Sage and thyme give a touch of elegance and freshness. The olfactory profile is completed by a marked salinity.

The sip is vibrant, supported by a well -balanced freshness and a decisive flavor, which amplifies the taste persistence and leaves a pleasant sensation of cleaning acceso the palate. The medium combines dynamism and structure, with a long and citrus ending, marked by lemon zest calls and a thin almond note.

Miniverticale Fiorini: four aligned vintages

The launch of the San Bruzio marks a new chapter for the Maremma Vermentino, demonstrating its evolutionary capacity. The mini-vertical of Fiorini confirms this direction. Over time, wine acquires greater complexity and depth: the fresh fruity quaderno of the younger versions are transformed into more ripe and enveloping perfumes, with hints of honey and spices. the palate, the flavor and freshness typical of Vermentino leave room for greater roundness and depth, showing that this grape variety has much to tell even beyond immediate consumption.

Fiorini Vermentino Maremma Toscana Doc 2021

The youngest vintage presents itself with a bright straw yellow color with still greenish reflections. The nose releases intense and fragrant scents, dominated by fresh citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit), apple and white flowers, with a slight herbaceous note that enhances its liveliness. A brackish and fleshy character recalls dry algae ora clams. Durante the mouth it is dynamic and tense, elegant the attack, characterized by a marked acidity and a decisive minerality, which leave a feeling of persistent freshness, very well balanced by fullness and portata. The ending is long, savory and slightly citrine.

Fiorini Vermentino Maremma Toscana Doc 2020

The somewhat dancer climatic trend has brought a reduction the yields that is reflected the glass with warmer aromas and intense colors, moreover, this vintage begins to show even greater evolution than 2021. His intense straw yellow begins to color of golden spillings, the nose emerges quaderno of ripe fruit such as white and apricot fishing, the field flowers, a hint of acacia honey and the exotic of the ananas. A mineral gradazione that begins its very personal path of approaching a memory of a little smoky riesling, with a pinch of white pepper and that light feeling of kerosene that certifies its evolution as a complexity element. All accompanied by the citrus freshness that becomes candied. Durante the mouth it has a more balanced structure, where acidity is still present but slightly more integrated with its malic character, thus leaving room for a pleasant soft, silky and enveloping texture.

VIGNA FIORINI VERMENTINO IGT Toscana Tardiva harvest 2019

Durante the luogo of Scansano 2019 will be remembered as one of the best recent years, very similar to 2021 without spring frosts but above all very healthy. It is expressed with a bright golden yellow color and a more complex bouquet. The well-known hydrocarburic increases, a sign of the evolution of wine, the exotic sensations turn over papaya, albeit keeping that freshness from the pear candy and that iodized character, a fil rouge of this mini-vertical. The new aspect is a herbaceous note that recalls the sweetness of mint. Agenda of fresh almond evolve a refined hint of marzipan, enriching the wide taste structure with softness and persistence, well balanced by a much more pushed acidity and a more than vibrant character. The long end has that saline touch with honey calls and a saline touch that invites a compulsive bevanda at times.

VIGNA FIORINI VERENTINO IGT Toscana Tardiva Tardiva 2018

Exuberant vintage that presents itself with an intense golden, signal of a more advanced maturation. The nose is very generous, with hints of exotic fruit (mango, pineapple), plum, helichrysum, dried fruit and an advanced note of hydrocarbon that enriches its complexity. Durante the mouth it has a full and harmonious structure, with a more blunt acidity and a deep flavor that extends persistence. The ending, slightly bitterly, loses a bit compactness.
