Wine tastings in the Roero: here are the cellars not to be missed
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Imagine driving along the hilly roads of Roero, sopra Piedmont, with the curves that acceso panoramas of vineyards as far as the eye can see, medieval castles and villages suspended over time. The air smells of must and earth, and each hill holds a treasure: a cellar, a story, a wine.

Welcome to one of the most authentic and surprising territories of the winery Piedmont. I have been there many times, but the cellars that struck me the most are three: I’ll tell you.

The Roero: Land of Arneis, Nebbiolo and Barbera

Unlike the best known Langa, Roero is wilder, more sandy, more aromatic. Here elegant wines are born but of strong identity. The Roero Arneis, fresh and fragrant white, is the emblem of the territory: mineral, floral, with perfumes of white fishing and chamomile. The Nebbiolo del Roero are more snello and fragrant than the barolist cousins, but voto negativo less long ora deep for this. And then there is the Barbera, energetic, vibrant, who sopra Cru as Bric Loira reaches extraordinary peaks.

The winery experience sopra the Roero is intimate and authentic: family -run cellars, direct welcome, and landscapes still far from mass tourist flows. A perfect place for those looking for wine … with the soul.

The cellars of the Roero

Stage 1 – Casa colonica Grano (channel) one of the most representative cellars of the Roero, Casa colonica Grano welcomes you sopra a modern seat but rooted sopra tradition, with a suggestive underground barrica dug sopra the hill. Here you can taste a complete selection of the great Roero wines: the end of Roero Arneis Anterisio, the vibrant Barbera Bric Loira, and the noble Nebbiolo Mompissano, up to the Barolo Rocche intorno a Castelletto, a sign of virtuous expansion sopra Langa.

The visit includes a walk through the vineyards, entry into the historic cellar and a guided tasting overlooking the hills.

Stage 2 – Moro and sons (Monteu Roero) one of the historical families of Roero, the Moro have cultivated vineyards sopra the ambiente for over 300 years. The main mesi estivi, Perdaudin, dominates the hills of Monteu Roero and is immersed sopra the most iconic vineyards sopra the ambiente.

Here you can taste some of the most refined expressions of the Arneis, including Cru as Perdaudin and Serra Lupini, but also reds such as the Roero Restrizione Sudisfà, powerful and profound.

The guided tour accompanies the guest through the history of the cellar, the philosophy of winemaking and a complete tasting acceso the panoramic terrace.

Moro Giuseppe

Stage 3– de Marie (Vezza d’) a small family -run reality that expresses the true artisan soul of Roero. At the De Marie you will be welcomed by the producers themselves, ready to tell you the story of their family, the vineyard and the territory.

The flagship? The Roero Docg, elegant and floral, refined sopra large wood, but also a Roero Arneis with intense scents and a classic method produced with care and patience.

The tastings take place sopra a rustic and authentic environment, perhaps with a few slice of salami and a slice of hazelnut cake.

Visiting tips for tastings sopra the Roero

Here are some “tips” to grasp the best of the cellars sopra the Roero.durata best: from May to October, but autumn with the colors of the harvest is also unmissable

What to combine: Langarola cuisine dishes, like Tajarin with ragù, plin, braised and the mythical hazelnut cake

Where to sleep: farmhouses between vezza and channel, with vineyards view rooms

A day (ora a weekend) sopra the Roero is much more than an oenological tour: it is a slow journey, full of meetings, flavors and panoramas that remain inside you. And each chalice tells a piece of this sandy, ancient and full of life.
